    Yellow or play on?

I think the ambiguity is what defines an 'intercept'. Surely if he goes to take it quickly and kicks it just by you you're entitled to stick your boot out? But in this case he stands still for a moment, pauses, decides to retreat, then realises the quick free kick is on so takes a step towards...

    Yellow or play on?

Not sure if these are geoblocked so posting two links. https://twitter.com/ALeague/status/927472946838249472 http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/video/1089310275855/Mitch-Austin-receives-shock-red-card Bit of an argument here as to what some see as 'deliberately' and some see as 'intercepting'...

    Player pole-axed - fairly?

^^^ This is an argument some are making over here. Have actually blown up a similar tackle against a player who completely flattened the opposing player after winning the ball. (More front on though.) Caused a huge ruckus at the time but after the game the player who I sanctioned apologised...

    Player pole-axed - fairly?

Is the above video geo-blocked? If so can you let me know and I'll try and find another source. Other source. https://twitter.com/FOXFOOTBALL/status/900312629096333312

    Player pole-axed - fairly?

http://www.foxsports.com.au/video/football/ffa-cup/mitch-austin-flattened!639327 Comments on this hit from an FFA fixture last night. (Our equivalent of your FA cup. Round of 16 match.) Facebook commentary varying from perfectly fine to red card. Personally I think he's won the ball clean...

    "Leave it"

Is it still a caution if a player yells 'mine' instead of 'Pete's' (for example) if the ball was coming to him and he was only calling it for himself and not as a distraction? (If say the other players are within a couple of metres.) Does that make sense?

    "Leave it"

I've actually given IDFK's for this sort of thing. Attacker runs in to hit a loose ball at the goal only to have a defender try and bawk them by shouting or yelling some rubbish. They get a hell of a surprise when they ask why and I say 'unsporting conduct'. (Obviously not many of their other...

    "Leave it"

It appears I may be labouring under a misapprehension. Could you please explain this a little further? My understanding was you couldn't call 'mine' when near an opposition player and an indirect free kick was the result. Based on the above that may be wrong. Could you please clarify the...

    Inidrect free kick taken incorrectly

Could someone please advise what the rule is if a player plays the ball twice from an indirect free kick. (I'm assuming indirect free kick the other way.) Law 13 says that if a direct free kick is touched twice by the same player in succession then an indirect free kick is given. I cannot...

    MLS incident

Agree with this. Probably not enough contact to drag him down but the dope gave the ref the opportunity to give it by putting his hand on the attacker's shoulder and he complied. Why would you do that I don't know. No hand on the shoulder - no pen.

    New ref couple of question's...

My pre-match to the 2 mens sides I was doing on Saturday included a warning about questioning every decision. I told them I'd be dealing with it if it got to the same level as the match I did with one of the sides a fortnight before. (Constant non-stop whinging about every single thing. Due...

    New ref couple of question's...

Yeah card the player gobbing off. Geez they annoy me. Handed out 2 in the last 2 weeks for 2 complete know-it-alls. One in an under 14's. With the 14's I gave them a warning before the game about dissent, then during the game and then the mouthiest lad had the hide (not 2 minutes after the...

    This rubbish has to stop...

https://twitter.com/FOXSportsnl/status/893884709826170880/video/1 Hmmmm. Ref waves play on 'no pen', team counters and scores, ref reviews initial instance, disallows just scored goal and awards original pen. I'm assuming there has to be a stoppage in play before the ref can go to a...

    Ball pressure

Of late I've been arriving at games to be given the match balls and they seem to be rock hard. To that end I've purchased a ball gauge that checks the pressure but also has a release that allows air out. Today my gauge arrived in the post so I checked the LOTG and found the allowable range to...

    Giant clearances

No offence taken at all. We've got mental cases here as well. I was just giving out that info for a bit of context about why there's no time added on and the distances involved, the pro / rel setup etc etc. Did you have a bit of a look at the website? Beautiful blue skies here, 22 degrees...

    Giant clearances

Whilst we're fairly serious about our football here on the Mid North Coast of NSW we don't have promotion and relegation like you do in the UK. (Until you get to NPL level.) Our A-League (the highest level in Australia) is a closed franchise league like the US's MLS. Despite a fairly robust...

    Giant clearances

Great replies and stories, thanks heaps. Would just like to add that in the leagues I ref in there is no time added on. Even for a serious, say broken leg, stoppage. The reasoning is that the other upcoming games will be pushed back and this will cause fixture mayhem. Should also add that...
