I had a game myself last night, and I don't have Sky, so I await ITV's highlights show tonight. Might watch the final now, Chelsea's 2nd XI v Bayern!

Addressing players by their first name....

If you get a teamsheet pre kick off, use it! Put the names in your book, have a crafty look after the first couple of minutes for the names of the players you'll be speaking to a lot (you'll know after 2 minutes, trust me!) and then use them at the opportune moments. It's great for making the...

    U11s games x2 this sunday

It's great when you do a game like that, and people don't know that you normally ref a lot higher. I did a couple of Sundays 2 seasons ago to get my quota up for promotion, and nearly all the players shook my hand after the games and asked if I could referee their league more often!

    Newcastle v Liverpool

I'm very disgusted with Reina - he's in my fantasy team!

    Medical Incident

Spot on Goldfish. I asked exactly the same question at my First Aid referesher course last year, and was given the answers you list above. Let the club(s) deal with the casualty initially, but if it appears they know less than you or will further endanger the casualty, you must use your first...

    Assistant refereeing

1- Don't be a ball boy! 2- Keep your flag unfurled at all times, and swap hands to keep the flag towards the ref. 3 - Try to stay square on to the pitch as much as possible (you get a better view, and the ref/players get a better view of you!)

Coloured Kits - Would you wear one?

I'd like to wear all white as the alternative, especially in the summer!

    What do you do?

You've not started play again, so you can do what you like - go with it and change your mind to the correct decision of goal kick, have a great big grin on your face and praise both players for their honesty. Remember, it's their game, not yours, you're only there to help. Remind them though...

    Man U v Athletic

Got to be honest, I thought the ref was right at the time. Then again, I'm old school......

    Man U v Athletic

"If a player loses his footwear accidentally and immediately plays the ball and/or scores a goal, there is no infringement and the goal is awarded because he lost his footwear by accident." Law 4 interpretation from LOAF 2011/12 on fifa.com

    Newly qualified ref- first match

Always have positive body language, without being arrogant. Make a decision and stick to it (it's amazing how often your gut reaction is correct!) Talk a lot!

    Respect handshake

Both Malky Mackay at Cardiff and Mark Hughes at QPR have said recently in the press that the pre-match handshake is more trouble than it's worth, referring to Suarez-Evra and Ferdinand-Terry respectively. I think that those two high profile incidents are the only negatives from thousands of...
