A question for you ... (football, but not referee, related)

Fred Blackburn was born in Blackburn and played for Blackburn and England!

When asked to remove an item by the referee, can a player remove the item and put it in his pocket in any circumstance?

I once put a players Apple Watch on as he needed the steps to claim a free coffee :D

    Decent black shorts with pockets

Yeah, have a look on Sports Direct etc, any black, non-branded shorts will do as long as they have pockets.

    Decent black shorts with pockets

What size are you? If you're looking for cheap shorts, any generic black ones with pockets should suffice. The Nike shorts this season are still around £25.

UK kit and supplies sale thread!

Correct, no shoulder strap. If you can find the old version anywhere, they have one. Lots of other bags have separate boot compartments but I'm not sure the bottom bits are as durable as the Nike unfortunately.

The standard Fox 40 are ok, but I'd heavily recommend a Fox Sonik Blast. I use one with a finger grip so you don't even have to hold it.

Pushing in the back from high balls

I was being observed for promotion the other day. Communicated as above throughout the game, sayings such as "keep it clean" or "hands down" etc, observer said I managed the game well and the teams are fiery usually, there were two free kicks in the first half! Some do, some don't. For me it...

Pushing in the back from high balls

Had this in a few games this season. In my last observation I was picked up on being in line with the thrower and not in the 'drop zone'. What would you rather spot, a foul throw or a potential elbow/push? Also be proactive with calls such as "hands down" or "no pushing", making any foul easier...

    Club Linesman

As @Russell Jones said, back him until obviously wrong. A little thing I do to help match control (or to sell it better) is say to the offside player "I could see you were offside from here and the lino confirmed that for me".

    Abuse this season?

I've had one RC for OFFINABUS, which is my first this season and my second in three seasons. I think I've had less sin bins than dissent YC's in previous seasons so far.

UK kit and supplies sale thread!

Hi all, thought would be a grand idea to start a UK kit and supplies thread that you can add to if you spot a bargain on ref kit. I'll start with the following: Black Nike roller bag £35 at Pro Direct Soccer LINK (£49.99 at A&H, £45 at ASOS) SPINTSO Pro watch £77.80 at Amazon LINK (£82.50 at...

    New Ref

You usually do the course as you said above, and then referee 5 games (which you hopefully will have a mentor watch you for a couple). Then you go back for an exam, which is what happens at a few County FAs.

Some talking points from my game on Saturday

First of all I'd be happy with 6/10 within my first half season of adult games! Secondly, self reflection is so important. You've identified areas that weren't great calls etc and you will learn loads from this. Going through the points: 1. Most players think that having a shot means you can't...

    ref shortages

Yep, I believe I have done two fitness tests with you! Probably don't recognise me as I'm always behind you... I've got two from that course too due to a shortage of mentors. Yep, South Somerset. Were you not appointed a mentor?

    ref shortages

My County FA has now made it compulsory for promotion candidates to mentor at least one new referee. This entails going to watch them in at least two of their first five matches and provide feedback etc. You can claim £10 in expenses for each time you watch them (a maximum of £20 can be claimed...
