Agreed clear reckless challenge, penalty yellow card. If you do that anywhere else on the pitch it’s a free kick so why does a defender get a free hit? I am one for giving late tackles in the penalty area even if a shot has been got off.

You state two bad reports from two separate matches, so there are likely learnings, maybe not in decision making but other aspects of refereeing? Can you ask a referee colleague to observe/mentor one of your next matches?

I guess my point was, as a football referee we wouldn’t let a player return to the pitch like this & with a shirt stained in blood, whereas rugby does.

Why does rugby have such different blood rules, in football a spot of blood on a shirt is not acceptable yet rugby union play on with open wounds?
