    "Calling the Captains in"

I think that's fine for when one team is going OTT. However for those games where both teams are going for it you can't pick out one team captain over another. Certainly not something I would do regularly at all though - depends on the captains as well; at times they're the captain because...

    "Calling the Captains in"

For me, sometimes not an awful lot. Literally it's you need to sort out your teams lads or it's zero tolerance and names going in book / people are going to the line. I think the symbolism of it can send out a powerful message and certainly empowers you to go zero tolerance with card v...

Dare you to make an address as gaelige at a NEURA meeting - would maybe even go myself to see some of the faces :blackeye:

    Match Fees - All Levels

T Do come across a lot more students for example - 8 hour shift in Micky D's or 2 hours of football time. No brainer in the £££££ sense.

    Match Fees - All Levels

I know - can be very lucrative for some - youth match on Friday night (£30), double header on a Saturday morning (2x£30 / £35 for u-18) and an adult match on Saturday afternoon (£40 + travel). No wonder clubs complaining some referees blowing out of their backsides come half time on a Saturday...

    Which pocket?

Very different time to now and something I'd not often expect to see from a referee these days. Long lapsed smoker myself. Players and referees sometimes having a smoke together at half time / full time, usually in the lower divisions I hasten to add - was good craic a lot of the time. Good...

    Match Fees - All Levels

That's what I've started doing sometimes now - as you'll know you start to get to know teams well and when they're genuinely struggling I don't see any harm in giving them a bit of leeway. However few referees I talk to agree with me and maybe I'm talking from the very fortunate perspective of...

    Match Fees - All Levels

We are indeed paid very well here - although I'm starting to feel a bit embarrassed taking some of the sums when you add on 40 + 30p per mile which means that some clubs like Portaferry and Portavogie are forking out at least 55 quid per week ( more if first team in intermediate divisions)...

    Which pocket?

Thinking back over 20 years ago I used to keep 20 Benson in my right short pocket for the half time smoke.

Stepped Approach = Tipping off the Opposition

Clumsy, lingering foot in half way circle as opponent ran towards touchline. No malice, just a bit lingering / slow against a much faster skilful opponent.

Stepped Approach = Tipping off the Opposition

Good competitive derby game today (OA). One young lad made a clumsy tackle (already on a yellow) and on balance more careless than reckless. Had a few other minor misdemeanours before but nothing caution worthy. . Rather than going for the 2nd yellow bring in skipper and warn that's it, nowhere...

    Junior/Youth Match Abandoned

Who the hell goes for a 14 year old or tries to intimidate them? Balls of steel. Hopefully it'll not put you off but I am wondering why you were there without adult support - especially for such a key game?
