    What do you do?

It's not a bad thing if you're calling the referee over for some trivial little comment made by a player. There's no way I'm going to caution someone for something like that.

Open Age Injury incident on Saturday

"I'd rather you wait for the ambulance for insurance purposes. If you try and do something and it doesn't go right, the league or you could end up in some serious trouble."

Open Age Injury incident on Saturday

Unfortunately, insurance issues prevent you from allowing the opposition player to carry out medical treatment. You can either have an ambulance come on or you can have him taken off by his teammates and have him wait for an ambulance on the sideline while the match carries on.

    Sad news

Sundial was always very keen to offer insight and sage advice to young referees; I cannot begin to count the number of times he helped (in his way) me work through some various issues I've faced in my career thus far. Requiem aeternam, Domine.

    What do you do?

If it is something that needs to be dealt with, you should inform the referee of what the player said and offer your opinion on how to deal with it; then the referee can make his decision. Warning, though, don't be calling the referee over for every little bit of dissent you get.

    Equipment/Pedometer Advice?

Don't bother with a pedometer, those things are right useless. Get a Garmin or other HRT monitor.

    Accidental trip

If it's just a coming together then that's one thing, but if the attacker wasn't going in a straight line, then it's a foul. He was being careless.

    Players going off feet

It's not just the players; you have to know that they've been done for it in the past by an ignorant referee.

    Any decent referee books?

My favourite refereeing book is definitely the Laws of the Game by FIFA. I have read it easily a dozen times cover-to-cover. ;)

    I keep forgetting ...

Unless the injury is clearly VERY serious, take the extra second to look at the player who committed the tackle and get something in mind to remember who it was. Chances are, he was hurt but it was nothing that required absolutely immediate attention and so you had a few seconds. Relax and take...
