    Sweden USA USA

With or without the aid of technology, goal given and yet American keeper continued to protest the ball hadn't crossed the line. One of the more amusing comments on social media I have read about the incident was that keepers are not allowed to attempt a double save at penalties :D

Comm Shield - Arsenal vs Man City

Partey & Alvarez both shown yellow cards for kicking the ball away. I have long been an advocate of a clampdown on timewasting, needless kicking away of the ball and gamesmanship etc, will be interesting to see if referees at the highest levels maintain the new stance or like many before it, it...

Mike Dean leaves PGMOL VAR role

I have avoided commenting on any of the stories posted on Social media as it's akin to p'n in the wind during a hurricane. Personally I think Mike Dean is one of the very best referees England has had, certainly in my lifetime. Hopefully he can teach Sky's pundits a few things about the laws...

    Champions League Final

Most referees only dream of maybe getting a final once in their lifetime, to get both the World Cup & Champions League finals in little over 6 months is some achievement!

    Prutton refereeing

Whilst refereeing your first game at any level can feel a bit alien or akin to being thrown to the lions in Roman times, was interesting seeing/hearing Prutton's admission he wasn't aware where he should have been positionally to judge for a potential offside, likewise with the penalty and his...

    Points deductions approved

I often found when I was watching my son play and during refereeing days, the worst teams for behaviour on and off the pitch were those with nothing to play for, so the threat of potential points deductions would be meaningless to them. If anything some would view it as a badge of honour.

    Europa League final

Rightly so. Shame we had to wait for VAR for officials to actually take a simple law of the game seriously and apply it. Fortunately the days of the likes of Dudek in the Champions League Final & the South Korean against Spain in '02 WC are over!

    League One Playoff Final

Camera went to Howard Webb in the stands after the red card, wonder what he was typing on his phone? Glad it's not just me who thinks Don Goodman is talking utter rubbish, always seems quick to ref bash at every opportunity.

    League One Playoff Final

Looked a nailed on penalty, the good old invisible high bar of what is clear and obvious at work again. For me it's a shocking challenge by the Barnsley player. Launches into it with both feet off the floor, gets nothing of the ball and catches his opponent with the trailing leg, probably a...

    Liv Villa - Mings VAR

Wasn't that long ago that the only time players went down claiming cramp was late in extra time of the FA Cup Final on a hot day. These days if it's a close game, it's almost guaranteed a player in the team that's winning will claim cramp. It could be argued that player fitness and standard of...

    Webb’s VAR show starts Monday

It was an interesting watch and would be good if made a regular thing, but it still had the feel of we will only show some carefully selected clips. What would be good to see/hear is the interaction between the officials of some situations where on first viewing there appears to have been a...

    Arsenal Vs Brighton

We all know the Premier League's invisible "high bar" is somewhat hazy, but sometimes referees do themselves no favours whatsoever where entertainment and keeping cards in pockets appears to come before player safety. 2 early challenges, Martinelli on Mitoma and then Caicedo on Martinelli from...

    Palace - Bournemouth

Slightly biased as I am a West Londoner living in Bournemouth exile for the past 16 years, so have a soft spot for my adopted local team. Easy to miss the incident in normal time and these sort of incidents always look worse in slow motion. For me it wasn't the cleverest thing to do and did...

NL Final - Chesterfield Vs Notts County

Chesterfield's Dobra giving us a prime example of why retrospective action needs to be taken against players who blatantly cheat/play act to deceive referees.

NL Final - Chesterfield Vs Notts County

Not convinced the whole ball had crossed the line and AR appeared several yards behind play to know for certain when the flag went up.

    Leeds Vs Newcastle

The threshold for handballs certainly seems a lot lower in Europe. Wasn't that long ago in La Liga when it was more surprising to see a handball decision not followed by a yellow card.

NL Final - Chesterfield Vs Notts County

Missed the start, turned over when Sky mentioned the IDFK, they said it was for a backpass

NL Final - Chesterfield Vs Notts County

Just turned over from SSSS updates to the play off final and big early call for the referee. Chesterfield attacker beats the offside trap, attempts to lob the ball over County's keeper, who gets a good hand on the ball, but his follow through wipes out the Chesterfield attacker, referee points...

    Leeds Vs Newcastle

Yet more brainless "defending", day to forget for Junior Firpo. Suspect Leeds might be getting a phone call on Monday after a "fan" confronted Eddie Howe in the technical area!

    Leeds Vs Newcastle

Yet more ridiculous "defending" for Newcastle's 2nd penalty. Would have been funny to have seen Robles get a 2nd yellow for his continued delaying tactics after his 1st yellow, got a warning off Simon Hooper after the goal was scored and Big Sam mouthing off again.
