Nightmare Incident... Gives me the Campus Cup Final nod!

Good stuff Steve. Always room for improvement mate! Thanks @Beezer

Nightmare Incident... Gives me the Campus Cup Final nod!

EXACTLY! ALL OF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. You've got on top of the tackle, quickly, which was good. Then you have to take control of the situation. You did a Premier League Type caution, which we advise not to do at grassroots. Get to the incident and tell the tackler to move away. He is...

Nightmare Incident... Gives me the Campus Cup Final nod!

Personally, I refuse and ignore them, but every referee is different. It is a pathetic attempt at trying to gain power and belittle you- a threat with no substance.

Nightmare Incident... Gives me the Campus Cup Final nod!

    1) Good to get on top of it stamp your authority, but instead of issuing the card, isolate him away immediately to diffuse the situation and then caution. You say he looked over your shoulder to the player - if you had isolated him away, so that YOU had ALL players in view - he would of had his...

    .

Management will be management - their methods are up to them. However, there is a line that can be crossed. If shouting becomes personnel, abusive, towards you, or swearing becomes involved. Talk to the manager once, being concise and saying his behaviour is not acceptable, if he wishes to...

    Games Over Summer

I am not aware about that area, but if not, that seems disappointing. Your first 6 games are some of the most daunting / important games, and thus you should be mentored on them. The FA agrees - the new basic referees course states that referees MUST be mentored at least 2 in their first 6...

    Games Over Summer

In my area, ALL (non-competitive and competitive) games are appointed to by the appointments secretary of their respective leagues. Thus, teams asking unknown referees will not be a problem - the appointment secretary will appoint and the teams won't have a say in the matter. I feel the timing...

    "Pass-Back"

I quote my original post: deliberately back-heels the ball to his goalkeeper

    "Pass-Back"

The goalkeeper remained quite and got on with it, the player who did the pass was the one who 'spoke up' - so it was him and the captain that I spoke to.

    Junior/Youth A pleasant surprise

Great suggestion HullRef. Put the smile on your face Dave, onto the manager as well.

    "Pass-Back"

That is what I gave - much to the upset of the defending team. "Ref, it can't be a pass back, I passed it forward!", and this this wasn't the general, try and get out of it - it was genuine. One conversation with the offending player and the captain is all I gave, and actually, the incident was...

    "Pass-Back"

This happened to me yesterday, feel free to discuss: Red defender is on the goal-line and deliberately back-heels the ball to his goalkeeper, who is standing in front of him, on the 6 yard line. What would you have done?

After saying it never happened... It happened

I have stated a number of times on here my opinion about these 'prep-talks'. I recommend referees not to do it (although it does work for some, and everyone is entitled to their opinion), it looks cringeworthy, players don't listen, and you set yourself up for avoidable dissent / tripping...

    Tattoos

I know a number of referees who have tattoos on their backsides (not that I've been looking you dirty lot!). Your superiors will never see it (well, maybe, but generally not...)

Opposition players bickering - should I intervene?

Depending on what the situation is, and how vocal it is, sometimes I would wait until the next stoppage. Stop play, clearly shout "Number 6 and Number 7 please" and get the captains if necessary. Make it publicly known that such handbags will not be tolerated, and if you need to speak to them...

    Travelling as a team

Indeed. But organisation wise it is much easier if there is 1 or 2 official, there. 1 referees, the assistants can be qualified or not. When 3 officials are not there = chaos. We don't get bushfires thankfully, just frost.
