I tend to agree that they mean the general area of play. Say for instance there was a fight in the TA after the full time whistle, I don’t think any referee would hesitate to show appropriate cards, even though it is technically off the pitch.

Same for me. I think at a grassroots level you could very easily caution and nobody would really argue, but by letter of the law it is probably a red and this level would expect that.

Nothing is gonna change until it all changes at the top. Grassroots players and spectators mirror what they see in the EPL and EFL. The broadcasters don’t help by usually having a one-sided panel of ex-players who don’t know the current LotG.

I think all this has proven is that IFAB have written a law which is convoluted and far removed from what regular players expect.
