    Womens national league

See my thread that I started a few weeks ago now. Previously tiers 3 & 4 were FA appointed referees (Levels 4/5) and County appointed ARs (Level 7 downwards) This season FA will appoint all officials - Level 4s middles and Levels 5 & 6 as ARs (ARs nominated by County FAs)

Might have taken a slightly wider path there BC! :p

First game coming up at the weekend

Worth remembering that although to you this is a massive game - to the players and everyone else, you're just another referee. They won't moan anymore or less if you make a decision they don't agree with - its what happens. Hopefully there won't be any early dramas, and you'll be surprised...

I've always found that good action shots of middle aged men (and women) in referee kit very hard to find, hence I will NOT be publishing any shots from MY archives!:p

    Interesting scenario

Very good serve, but I'm coming back with this rather impressive return (I think!);) The first mention of team LISTS is prefaced with this "If the competition rules state that all players and substitutes must be named......................" Therefore surely all subsequent mentions only apply...

    Interesting scenario

Not sure if worth pointing out and/or it changes anything, but don't forget although subs DO need to be named and that list given to the refereee as per LOTG, team sheets and their details are competition rules only - no mention of them in LOTG.

LOTG 2021-22 (Out in June 2021)

Hello Ross, any update on this at all? Many Thanks

Player abusive to club linesman. What actions can you take?

Agree. To have a serious word, think I would have to see and maybe partially hear the dissent. You usually can witness at least something going on. In my 'unsighted' scenario, I agree 100%, you can't go flashing the cards based on an unqualified assistant's say so. Further, I think if you DID...

Women - Tiers 3 and 4 next season

North Oxfordshire RTC was his team. Thanks for telling me what RTC stood for, I did wonder!:p

Women - Tiers 3 and 4 next season

Purely coincidentally one of the GKs in the U16 final I was AR on was outstanding. It went to pens, and the refereeing team had a quick chat about who we thought would win - I chose his team because I was so impressed and lo and behold he DID make the only save in the pen shoot out, ensuring his...

Player abusive to club linesman. What actions can you take?

Rightly or wrongly, I always say in my, (now rare) pre match to CARS, if anyone has a word with you let me know and I'll have a word with them. This allows leeway on how to sanction - depending on what I ACTUALLY hear/see.

Player abusive to club linesman. What actions can you take?

Back to the original question. If you don't hear the exact words said to the CAR, would you take his/her word for it and dismiss/caution as necessary? Further, if you haven't seen/heard anything - ball up other end of field from 'offending' player and CAR for example - would you still issue a...

Women - Tiers 3 and 4 next season

Finals I did were 'normal' duration and £30 for refs and £22.50 for ARs and 4ths.

Women - Tiers 3 and 4 next season

Good question! I think they contact some returning referees directly, but I got mine by replying to a general "Who wants to do these games?" email from County FA. They had at least 3 finals days, all held at Middlesex FA's HQ - Rectory Park. Not sure some of the teams - including those from...

Women - Tiers 3 and 4 next season

I think Bester may have a point. Form my conversations with level 4s and even the occasional 3 on these games, many are not too keen on officiating on the Women's games and almost without fail, they have had to travel a fair distance for the privilege. Of course the downside is that you will...

    Was refereeing kids football

My 'favourite' was from years ago at a tournament. Owing to the timescale, exact details are a little hazy, but I did award a drop ball, from which a 9 year old player produced an absolute (for his age) 'worldy' cross that was was met by an equally fabulous and unlikely header by his team mate...

Women - Tiers 3 and 4 next season

Thought someone would ask that! :p Open age middles never really appealed, which is why I've never gone for it. After many years of youth middles, started doing Isthmian U18s/23s lines - really enjoyed those, started doing the women's lines and now nearly full time AR - did 3 county cup semis...

    Threshold for Dissent

Agree almost 100% - only caveat is that approach, doesn't allow you to "rely on something later, that you haven't mentioned at the toss" ;) Only thing I say is to ask the captains to intervene if they see one of their players getting in trouble or about to. Saves the captains. or anyone else...

Women - Tiers 3 and 4 next season

I've been told that AR appointments for these games will now be done centrally - not by County FAs as previously. Also been advised that FA have asked for nominations from County - but only levels 5 and 6. Guessing that will mean 3/4s in the middle. Great shame for me as I've enjoyed ARing at...

" 2 sides ref" is one of (many) comments from the sidelines that really gets me!
