    Brentford v Forest

Good footballing IQ - but a technical question, is VAR empowered to get involved here if they wanted to? I would say this is taking the FK from the wrong place, but not sure if VAR can intervene on that law, or whether the concept of “clear and obvious” exists here...

    Manchester derby

VAR intervention felt soft there - in the context of the discussion about high thresholds for C&O, surprised that was given. Obviously there’s a good shout for a pen, but Rodri’s also making the most of it and it’s not obvious that Hojlund’s arm round his chest causes the fall. Thoughts?

    Chelsea v Villa

Thoughts on the Malo Gusto red card? Felt like yellow was plenty enough - he wins the ball well before contact and to me it was reckless rather than excessive force. Definitely didn’t seem like a VAR intervention was needed...

    Newcastle v Arsenal

I’m confused - thoughts on the reversed PK? I know leg first and onto arm is usually no pen, but that’s generally when the ball has been miscontrolled. Here Kiwior has made himself bigger to stop a shot and it hits his thigh first before his arm (I think). I can understand the ref giving no pen...

    Forest v Newcastle

My first reaction to the Anderson disallowed goal was that the ball was played to Longstaff by the Forest defender, starting a new phase of play and therefore not an offside offence - and certainly not C&O for VAR to overturn. Is there something I'm missing?

    Liverpool v Chelsea

Good one for a training course and good spot from the VAR - not sure I’ve seen an offside before where the offside player has been so clearly “behind” the team-mate who played the ball (though ahead of the ball).

    GER v ENG

Isn’t Kane offside for the penalty?

    Wales v Ukraine

Looked a nailed-on penalty not given after VAR check - striker clearly nips in to get the ball and gets kicked by the defender. I guess slightly unusual in that both are moving in the same direction away from goal, but still feels like a pen?

Reckless challenge that breaks up a promising attack

This is in the context of Chiellini yesterday - I’m right in thinking that both in practice and in law, a tackle meeting both of these criteria is just a yellow? Or is it just in practice, and could technically be two yellows in theory? It’s not obvious to me just by reading Law 12, but am...

    Valencia v Real Madrid

Valencia had to retake their first penalty today after it was saved and an encroaching player scored the rebound. I thought this was an IDFK. I know the law is “if the ball enters the goal” the kick is retaken, but I thought that referred only to the original penalty. Seems unfair on the keeper...

    Arsenal v Sunderland - backpass

Clearly a backpass at 4:37 in the YouTube clip, but why is the IDFK taken from right on the goal line (in fact, slightly inside the six yard box)? Surely it should've been from the point on the goal area line closest to the incident parallel to the goal line, which would have been a much...
