surely he should have stopped play and awarded an indirect freekick when Hoolihan touched the ball? Playing with incorrect equipment. That goal was awarded incorrectly. Correct me if Im wrong though.
Difficult decision to make for the referee . He's jumped with his elbow but the key point is he hasnt thrown it. I was looking for movement of the elbow but there wasnt any. I would have given only a freekick with a strong word to Lee to keep his elbows down next time.
Thanks Brian. Been a Levl 4 but still learning. I've always awarded IDFK for incorrect equipment and never had any complaints. I was right but wrong. The IDFK should be for playing in a dangerous manner (to himself. try explaining that to a player :).
I think I'll stick to incorrect equipment...
Funny thing i heard this weekend.
Player miscontrols a pass and as the ball rolls away from him he uttered under his breath " Come here you slag"!
First time hearing that :)
Seems you came out a stronger and a better referee. Easy games will do you no good and most importantly you did not shy away from using your cards though you shouldnt rely on them too much.
Word of advice:
when a player openly/publicly challenges your authority/control especially at the...
As knights of the whistle, we have a clear choice. We can stop this if we want. Some of us enjoy the status quo and almost think its a badge of honour to put up with dissent/abuse. It's worrying when a referee thinks he has a responsibility to keep 22 players on the pitch. That's the...
when was the last time you heard a rugby referee having to go through what football referee's endure? Or maybe rugby players don't get fustrated or maybe they are more disciplined or less violent?
In rugby the rules are applied uniformly without leaving each referee to "his own" or making...
SM - Each to their own though!
that's the problem with football. You dont get this in rugby (sorry if you've heard it before). A lot things are wrongly classified as dissent rather than OFFINABUS, then players go scot free for real dissent rather than the mandatory caution.
No wonder...
sorry but if a player calls me USELESS he's walking! The bollocking from his team mates shows clearly you missed a sending off.
and you let the same player get away again from a dissent caution?
when i caution a player for dissent, i normally call over the captain and inform them both in...
Let's not mince words here or try to defend the indefensible. His performance wasn't good enough today. Missed 3 stonewall penalties and cautions. Yes I'm a Liverpool fan BTW. At times he was making crucial decisions about 20 yards away. He surely doesn't belong to the same group as Clatts
I've recently relocated to a non-EU country and would like to continue as a referee. The local association has requested a communique/certificate from the England FA about my status ( I'm Level 4 btw). The local association themselves are unsure as to the exact procedure.
How do I go about...
