    Player Impeded by the Referee

At the risk of opening up old wounds, I’d like to bring to your attention that, in my role of neutral spectator, I witnessed another accidental player/Referee collision at today’s FA Vase match in Hampshire. The player, in an attempt to retrieve a pass, accidentally bumped into the Referee. On...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

Please don't read things that are not there. I did not condone the actions of the player, I merely stated that it was a consequence of the previous action which may have been prevented by a dropped ball. Why are you so touchy about someone's opinion that you disagree with? I described a single...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

I don't disagree with your contribution; all valid points. The point I was trying to get across was that, in this game, if the referee had been allowed to give a dropped ball, the Red Card situation would not have occurred. I didn't condone the player's subsequent immediate reaction for which...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

I apologise to the mods and others but the term "With respect" that I use means that I respectfully/politely disagree with something and offer my version. Anyway, I will leave it there and hope everyone has felt that the debate was useful.

    Player Impeded by the Referee

I don't know what you mean by 'new'. I'm a 74 year-old spectator and I don't need patronising. I have a view and others have views so please don't be so sarcastic.

    Player Impeded by the Referee

With respect, that is an appalling attitude from a match official. If you would care to read the actual match referee's comments on the situation, you will find that he wishes he had the dropped ball option in his 'toolbox'. If you would also care to read the match situation again you will find...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

Can I refer you the match Referee's measured and reasonable response to my suggestion. How many times does the ball hit the match Referee during a game. I've not seen many but it is still legislated for. I doubt that players would be encouraged to deliberately collide with match Officials to...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

Just to finish off, it just goes to show how the same incident can be viewed differently. The AR on the far side saw it from the back and the one on the Stand side saw it, as I did, from the front. You saw it close up. I didn't think you had any doubt and throughout the fracas that followed, you...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

The other ridiculous incident was the Hallen 7 who kept kicking the ball back to where he thought the freekick should have been taken when the Stonehouse player put it in the correct position.. Quite rightly a Yellow Card. As a matter of interest, although it doesn't matter, the AR, as you put...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

I was and I thought you were very good. Cool, calm and correct throughout the game. I was a neutral spectator, by the way.. Did I describe the incident as you saw it? and do you think that you should be allowed to give a dropped ball in those circumstances? The player, of course, was dealt with...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

Football is played by the same Laws whatever the level and I am not so disrespectful to use your term. As an aside, how many times have Referee's awarded a Freekick or Penalty Kick when a ball is driven at close range and hits an opponent on the arm without him being able to get out of the way...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

With respect, that’s a very unfair and biased assumption unless you apply it to yourself e.g. you should know where the ball is and “avoid the path”. As one of your colleagues has already pointed out, he doesn’t have 360-degree vision, so neither do players. Players, the ball and Referee’s are...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

I wasn't expecting a cynical approach. This doesn't happen in every single game. I wonder if you were the player involved whether your view might have been different. If the Referee is deliberately targeted then the player would be sent off.

    Player Impeded by the Referee

In some games the play develops so quickly that even the best placed Referees sometimes get entangled with the play which is why I think the outcome should be a dropped ball. The game I was watching was an FA Vase match where the score was 1 - 0 so it was pretty tight and I'm sure Referee's...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

Unfortunately the player got frustrated with the situation and the red mist descended. I wonder if IFAB might look at this and suggest a dropped ball in those circumstances. Although it's not an excuse but this incident led to a Red Card - not the fault of the Referee, I might add.

    Player Impeded by the Referee

Thanks for that. I thought the player was rather foolish to have a concerted moan at the Referee while the play was still going on. He suffered the consequences of his hot-headed action. In a way I felt a bit sorry for the player because he lost possession when he might have controlled the ball...

    Player Impeded by the Referee

Yet another of those interesting match incidents I witnessed for your deliberations. A player had his progress slightly impeded when he bumped into the Referee who was in the same space as an incoming pass which caused the player to mis-control it. He remonstrated with the referee, who allowed...

    Broken Corner Flag

Yet another of my incidents witnessed at a game for your deliberation. During a stoppage in play in the second half, the Assistant on the far side drew the Referee's attention to the fact that a Corner Flagpost on the furtherst diagonal from him was not in place. It turned out that it had been...

Offside: Where does the offence occur?

Thanks again. As a spectator, I often 'cringe' when players collide unnecessarily. Can I just ask one further point? If, before the chasing forward gets near or touches the through ball, is brought down by a defender or 'keeper in the Penalty Area, do you deem the forward to be offside or do you...

Offside: Where does the offence occur?

Very interesting. Thank you. In the 'good old days' the Assistant would have flagged at point (a) as soon as the player moved towards the ball. I suppose tactically it's better for forwards to chase the ball well into their opponents half so that the free-kick can be taken as far as possible...
