I think you have said exactly what is currently wrong with the referee setup. It's a mess and I hope in the summer they can get together and sort it out as it's making it harder for the average referee when decsions like this are going wrong on a weekly basis.

    Everton - Forest

I see the PGMOL have now provided the audio for this and Taylor says 'he gets the ball' when you can see from the vid that they have released that the defender goes through the back of the attacking player to get to the ball (i.e. the attackers foot hits the ball). Why did the VAR agree with...

    WHM v LIV

Simple misunderstanding goes along the same lines as being incapable of making the right decision in a particular moment. In this situation the referee has saved a goal keeper from looking like an ass. Why is it his job to do that? We have had plenty of times where this has happened in the past...

    WHM v LIV

To be fair that is a true statement as I think both Diaz and Nunez are in the bottom 3 across the whole of Europe in their ability to hit the target this season! Gakpo however is quite a reasonable finisher - he just hasn't taken many! 🙃

    WHM v LIV

I think from the eyes of Areola he believes the players are far enough away from him to roll the ball forwards and then waste some time. Sadly for him Gakpo is switched on enough to run back and try and get to the ball before he does. What makes it confusing is that if the keeper thought it was...

    WHM v LIV

I think Liverpool were out of the title race when they drew away against Utd but that's all by the by. We can all assume the Taylor made a mistake and then realised he would look like he stopped a possible goal so had to invent an injury story that no-one else saw. Anyway, these mistakes...

    WHM v LIV

Also there was a terrible stamp on MacAllisters ankle in the first half by Paqueta that was given as a free-kick when I've seen challegnes like that given as Yellow and even Red cards this season but it seems referees dont want to make a decision like that so early in the game (maybe 5 minutes in).

    WHM v LIV

Did anyone see the exchange towards the end of the game? Areloa had the ball in his hands after a corner and rolled the ball out in front of him (there was no free kick) and then put his hands on his thighs looking down. Gakpo thought the game was in play so went to challenge for the loose ball...

    EVE vs LIV

I complained to friends last night that Salah gets little to no protection from referees and that Sheffield Uniteds Oliver McBurnie probably gets more fouls and it is correct. This season Salah has been fouled 21 times in 25 games and Burnie has been fouled 27 times in 14 games. I know Salah...

    Man Utd vs Liverpool

Well currently no-one seems to know how VAR is supposed to be used as it in one game is involved in changing a decision and in the next game it doesn't. The rules need to be more clearer as I think we have all come to blows in disagreeing if it's working or not.

    Osula challenge on Konate

I might be a LIverpool fan but like I said above the VAR missed two blatent fouls that should have been red cards (or at least fouls) but I've seen very little positive input from VAR recently as they just seem to regulary screw things up. It needs a complete review as currently its not fit...

    Osula challenge on Konate

You are right of course - so why was the VAR MIA? It seems like they just aren't doing their job? Both incidents are blatent red card offences and yet the VAR just lies down and does nothing. Like I said, they are currently fit for nothing.

    Osula challenge on Konate

So he's saying no foul for a foul on the United player but then he he's not seeing the challenge by the United player. Surely that is a mistake? I'm starting to wonder if VAR is fit for purpose as it appears to only offer any insight when the VAR referee is senior to the referee on the pitch.

    Osula challenge on Konate

This isn't about Liverpool really but more about dangerous challenges not getting reviewed. You can see the referee Atwell waving clearly that there was no foul by Konate but surely there was a case for dangerous play by the United player? After VAR choose to not get involved with Silva's...

    Super Sunday yellow cards

As it gets to the business nend of the season we are seeing teams getting stretched and untidy in possession meaning passes are going astray and fouls are being made more frequently. I think it showed in both games that perhaps both referees are playing too much as they can't seem to make simple...

    Match Official Mic'd up

Of course running in to challenge for the ball and then seeing that the opposing player is raising his foot up to chest height and not having the good grace to stop and let Doku clear the ball is obvously acting without precaution and is almost a foul in itself. It seems to me and this isn't...

    Match Official Mic'd up

So, you agree that kicking someone in the chest no matter how lightly is effectively not a foul as I guess no blood is drawn? Ok so as long as I know the distintion between a foul and a light get together - of course the game is a physical sport so this is acceptable.

    Match Official Mic'd up

But the referee does miss a blatent foul so no it has happened here. I can only think that the VAR in question doesn't want to overrule Oliver and so just agrees with what he has said which is so wrong on so many levels.

    Match Official Mic'd up

But the referee cannot possibly see the correct view that gives the correct outcome so how is it not a C&O error?

    Match Official Mic'd up

I think this sums up the purpose of the VAR though. THey are there to see the angles that the referee can't see and all they have done here is back up the referee from the point of view of the referee. If they used their common sense and realised that the referee is standing behind Mac Allister...
