Ankle Stiffness

Reffed 2 over last weekend, plus other bits and bob. Was walking to the shop the other day and felt my ankle was a bit sore, thought nothing of it. Just started a run, and my ankle is really stiff and sore... After about 5/10 minutes its alright, but I'm reffing 2 this weekend again, and hoping it doesn't affect it too much.

Any ideas on getting the pain away? Tried deep heat, useless in this case.

such a complicated joint, it could be a huge number of things...
personally i'd see how this weekend goes and then go and see the docs , get some expert advice.
we've all had something similar i'm sure, but what works for one doesnt necessarily work for another, in fact with ankles, knees and back pain i think certain exercises can be counterproductive.
having said that, i'd strap it up this weekend if i were u

From recent expience, doctors aren't the best people to ask. Physio is the best course of action, but costly this is likely to be sadly. :yodaemoji!

yup, sorry physio is what i meant .... excuse my flippant typing :)

we have a local physio that gives you your first appointment free if you are a member of the local RA, that might be worthy of a check?
after that you get discounted sessions

Cheers for the help.. Local physio up the road from me, is also a physio for my local non-league team I support so I can trust her. Both ankles unfortunately. Luckily my game tomorrow is U13 and a smaller pitch, but Sundays game is full size pitch so plenty of rests, hot baths and elevated feet I think!

Figured out what it was.. The turf was to tough on my feet & boots, so caused pain in my ankles. More boots and padded insoles it is!

Most ankle problems are a problem from your "running gate". Arrange to see a Podiatrist and get them to advise you. They can be specialist insoles for you. I know I have had mine 25 years and still helping the pro-antion of my knees / ankles.

why does everyone say heat?

any swelling/soreness etc - cold ... R.I.C.E Rest Ice Compression Elevation ... ice on for 10 minutes, off for 10 and repeat ... use deep 'freeze' not deep heat also ...

one final thing, I sometimes get 'weak ankles/shins' ... I find a nice cycle and swim in the gym helps a lot (mixed with some light squats)

Yeah, I was always under the impression that heat is for muscle injuries and tightness, anything at joints that might be ligament damage needs cold.
