Jewellery for officials

I've just returned from an unexpected long break from refereeing and am officiating my first fixture in a couple months this weekend at U11's. The problem is during the summer I got an ear piercing that I expected to have healed by the start of the season. However, I have been told I am unable to remove it for risk of infection to my ear closing. What should I do about my fixture - risk it and take it out or try and get my fixture covered?

The Referee Store
absolutely take it out if you do the game

you cant enforce no jewellery amongst the players if you've got some in/on!

Yeah doing the game with it in isn't an option - was hoping anyone from a similar situation would know if I can safely take the risk of removal or if I can't do it at all.

ah, now that i can't help you with!

how long is the game? surely even a 90 minute game wont see your ear close up too much? i have absolutely zero evidence/knowledge to back that up mind!

Take it out.

Might sting a bit getting it back in mate but so long as your hands are scrubbed clean prior to both the removal and the reinsertion there's virtually no risk of infection - especially if you stick a plaster or something over the hole during the match. Remember to wash the earring thoroughly before you poke it back in though ... ;)

I think you should listen to the advice you got from the professionals and not remove it. There's no point risking infection for a football match.

Use surgical spirit on removal and insertion and this will stop any infection. Alternatively purchase a bottle of specialist cleanser from Claire's Accessaries that carry out piercings as this does the same job!
