Liverpool v Barca - where is VAR?

Not a fan of either, but VAR?

Robertson's agressive double handed push in Messi's head while he was on the floor... Son got sent off for less at the weekend.

Saurez kick at Robertson.

In my opinion, that's two simple reds VAR has missed.

It’s the main flaw in the protocol.

VAR cannot give basic YC offences that an AR can give.

That said AR2 should have seen the Suarez kick.
And the ref should have seen Vidal’s save.

I thought the whole point of VAR is to issue red cards that were missed?

Describing Robertson's push as "aggressive" is a bit of a stretch. But definitely surprised the ref wasn't asked to take another look at the Suarez kick, he had a lot of time while treatment was going on.

Who'd have believed it? Wanted it but didn't expect it......c'mon you reds........

Never the whole point. But it is one of the reasons it was pushed for--to catch egregious VC or SFP.

But here in the real world, that's not how it has actually been used. Can you name a single WC send off from VAR? The clear error standard has been a high hurdle in many competitions for VAR intervention. So it primarily has been used to give PKs (often for fouls that many of us don't think our actually clearly erroneous to miss) and pull goals out of the net (often for OS that cannot be accurately determined without a freeze screen replay).
