Offiside or not?

Moment in a game today. Two strikers in the box stiker on the right takes a shot and the goalkeeper saves. As the ball is travelling towards the goal the second striker has carried on with his run and then is in an ‘offside’ position when he collects the partied ball and shoots into the net. The defender is now behind the second striker when he shoots. What would you give a goal or not. Assistant gave offside. The diagram isn’t brilliant but you should get the jist of things.

The only time you just offside in this example is when the shot was made. At that time the second striker was onside, so he shouldn't be penalised when he touches the ball. He should only be penalised if when the shot was made he was ahead of the second last defender.

Hopefully the AR thought the player who scored was in OSP at the time the shot was taken. This a very basic application of Law 11. As noted above, OSP is only measured at the time a teammate plays or is touched by the ball. Period. There are no exceptions to that basic concept. As drawn, this is a pretty easy play that the AR should correctly recognize as not even close to being an offense. But as I said at the start, the AR may have seen the facts of the play differently.

Assuming the dotted line shows the run the second striker made after the ball was kicked by striker 1 this is a very clear "not offside" scenario. For there to be any possibility of this player being penalised, he had to have been in an offside position at the moment a team mate last touched the ball. He wasn't.

He was onside as the ball rebounding off of a post, or the goalkeeper making a save, does not reset the play. The question is: was he onside when his teammate last played the ball? It looks like he was and is therefore a good goal.
