Junior/Youth Right choice or not?

A tackle can be careless, did you think it was careless? Was the attacker hurt or could they have been hurt?

These are interesting scenarios and even more reason to give yourself thinking time before awarding fouls.
A related issue that arose in one of my matches recently was a player committing that type of challenge, often near the byline, where he dives in and makes no contact on ball or player, who continues running with ball. There is always a sharp intake of breath from me when that happens. I let one go recently because there was a clear advantage anyway, but the response of the defender's captain (he rebuked his player's decision to tackle) told me I had been lenient. How easy is it to sell the 'attempt to trip' clause in such instances, and how far do considerations of carelessness/recklessness influence your thinking?
Thanks

@CapnBloodbeard, just imagine a tenpin ball through skittles.

Genuine case for serious foul play perhaps?
