I’ve been asked to referee a schools U18 county cup match this week (asked by the school, not appointed by county FA).

I haven’t refereed one before and rarely do middles for youth games. Any general advice? The online competition rules are a few years old but appears to be 40mins each way, rolling subs etc.

They hardly ever update the competition rules for those school games.

I always found that the schools basically made it up as they went along in terms of competition rules. Always best to contact either County FA or Schools FA

I did U16 Girls County Schools Cup Final a couple of years back and was told it was same rules as normal county cup that age was my first middle in a cup final so was fun experience.

My greater concern is that the rules stipulate 20mins of extra time during the winter’s dying light. Safe to say there won’t be much injury time!

I can only hope kick off is no later than 1 - 1.30pm, because if 2pm then you will definitely struggle to get in 20 mins of extra time (& potential penalties) if required.

Make sure that the clubs and competition are affiliated - see another thread re this.
If so, there must be up to date competition rules available.
Proceed with caution🤔
