The cards that are used in the professional game to hand in to the 4th Official to request a substitution:

• What do they look like?
• What information is written on them by the club official?
• Presume they are retained by the 4th to cross reference the subs post-match?

Nothing more than player on and player off. It just has boxes for number off and number on.

Here’s one from a recent game. Very straightforward. The numbers written top left are (in some cases) added pre game by the 4th official to ensure that only subs with the correct number are allowed onto the pitch.

Never ever retained one in my life, or saw them being retained by anyone. Straight in the bin as soon as we were ready to go.

Little tip for anyone that ever gets to use them if you’re 4O. Write your name on the top of each card. Nice little ice breaker for the clubs.

I keep them all, they fit nicely in my notebook with the back being blank

Also, it’s a pain in the arse that, in my experience, most boards have number on first then number off but these cards have number off then number on.

I did exactly that, numbers the wrong way round, and to add insult to injury I chose a televised game to do it in.

Although on my first ever Conference game I didn't know about the function button on the board and putted added time at the end of the first half as 0004
