This was in my 5th game. A few years ago.

Red team were winning 2-1 and one of their players had the ball in the corner with a blue player behind him. The red player has gone to back heel the ball missed completely and caught the player where it hurts.

Just wondering what opinions there are on this?

Both teams had a good laugh about this after the game (Apart from the player who got his area kicked)

Free kick to blues, and some consoling light hearted comments. Careless from red player by the sounds of it.
 
Time remaining is not a consideration for whether or not to book a player. Proper reason not to book the player would be because it was clearly careless and not in any way a reckless challenge nor was it one which used excessive force.
