The Ref Stop
We’ve got a fake bog roll sheik not an oil laden one!
I think we’d done slightly better historically till your bloke opened the money tap..... and yes, I was there too! 😂

I remember going to Maine Road in the mid 90s for a cup game. Attendance roughly 20K of which 5K were away fans
My worst ever memory of an away day. A frightening experience for a young family, both en-route and leaving the ground. I went to a lot of away games as a boy and that one was unrivalled in every negative respect

Once you'd paid a quid to the kids that patrolled the streets to "look after your car sir" (which meant pay the quid or you'll have your wing mirror kicked off sir) you could walk through any of the surrounding estates, through 'dog **** alley' and onto the ground. I used to love the North Stand as that's where the hardcore were but the Kippqx and Family stand were a good substitute. I loved Maine Road, my last trip there was when Marc Vivien Foe died and they had a memorial.

I don't think City ever had a big trouble with hooliganism compared to others, but there was an element of trouble and if you were unfortunate to be there when it kicked off then it did turn nasty occasionally. I got hit by a coin by a man u fan at the derby at Maine Road many years ago! In Copenhagen for a Europa League tie a few years ago we were all in the Irish bar when a load of blues rushed the sports shop next door and stole all the footballs and booted them at all the locals taking pictures of us all boozing and singing outside the pub. Spoilt a great trip, there's always that element of idiot at the football unfortunately.

When we moved to the Etihad, alot of the known trouble makers were split up and not allowed to sit together and alot of them protested and gave up their season tickets. Good.

Stephen Ireland won that game and many others almost on his own that season. I'd never seen performance levels like that, he was incredible that season. Then his 3 grandma's died and it all went downhill 🤣🤣🤣

I'm sure they're are many horror stories from Tyneside. Maybe, my visit to Moss Side and Maine Road was worse than most

I used to play junior football in Moss Side, Gorton, Levenshukme etc. Interesting places! The work City do in that community is fantastic. Provide facilities both on City campus for football and facilities at local schools. Loads of free training and use of the city campus and free tickets etc. They really do so much more than required these days it's incredible. And yes, I am aware that it doesn't compensate for human rights abuses in the Middle East but the world is full of hypocrits lol

enjoyed my visit to Maine Road..although it was for a FA cup semi not invoving City
Always saw battles at Newcastle v Utd, walking back to train afterwards, down those narrow streets.
Apart from once, prob 91/92 when remember paying at gate to get in the old away end opposite where the away fans go now.

Were city fans this paranoid after the play off final with Gillingham, where so much added time was played that they managed to come back from 2-0 down to equalise and subsequently win on penalties?

Obviously as a referee I know that added time isn't an exact science, and often goes over the minimum shown.

My wife is adamant that Halsey played that amount of time so that City could equalise, a bit like Fergy time where they would keep playing, seemingly, until United cod equalise or win.

Blackpool is an unpleasant experience, their fans once put a brick through our coach window after we beat them, while it was full of peoe and driving out of the carpark

Mark Halsey is a fellow 'R', so unlikely I would have thought!

Worst trouble I ever saw was Darlington v Huddersfield, Darlo fans attacked a supporter coach similar to the Man Utd one last season, bricks, stones, coins, anything they could lay their hands on. It was like something out of Green Street!

Feel for the Blackpool fans a bit, we’ve all had sh1t owners but he takes that and laughs in their face!

Until you’ve followed a team through the thin it great to appreciate what City have, ****ing their noses up at the one proud but ****y neighbours. But always remember, it could all end tomorrow!

that's why city fans, more than anyone, realise how lucky we are. we've certainly followed our team through thin and thinner

now we're just enjoying the ride and an 11th (finger crossed - could be 15 by august!) trip to wembley in my lifetime!

The Superhoops have been there 5 times in 50 odd years

2 defeats (I missed one)
1 draw

2 wins (The first one I was only 6) plus of course the glorious 'Ohhhhhh Bobby Zamora' day!
