No, they are closing access when it starts to become too busy, not when it has become over crowded. I'm just back from a week in Devon and Cornwall and went to a few beaches, not to sunbathe rather just to see the area. On sunny days they looked packed from a distance, a bit like the photos in the tabloids, when when I got closer it was clear that people were social distancing and there were gaps between everyone. I went to Lands End and from there saw Sennen Beach which looked absolutely rammed, but once I got down there an hour or so later there was loads of room. And yesterday went into Perranporth, the car queues into town were horrendous and the beach looked packed from distance but again there was actually loads of room if you were sensible.

Don't believe everything you read in the press, and photos are taken from an angle to make it look more busy than it actually is.

I live just up from Perranporth. It's horrendous there at the minute.
Falmouth and St Ives are also ragingly busy as the streets just aren't designed for social distancing.
The problem with these places are around 40-50% are showing no regards to social distancing, with many local businesses reporting that they are hearig phrases like we've come down here to get away from all that... 🤦‍♂️
 
Having just spent the day in Padstein sorry Padstow, streets were rammed and no sign of any social distancing anywhere. Couldn’t wait to leave!
 
Weird as I spent a night in Falmouth on Wednesday and thought it was all quite sensible. Of course the roads are very narrow so people are forced close together, especially when vehicles are passing, but everyone seemed to be at least trying to stay apart as much as they could.

I only spent an hour in Padstow and didn't go to St Ives so can't really comment on those. Most of the pubs and bars I went in across Devon and Cornwall seemed to be very sensible, only a couple of notable exceptions where there were large groups of under 25s showing absolutely no sign of social distancing, but I think that is the case in the whole of the UK.
 
I live next to the first beach down from London, so it’s been rammed every day since May. None of the locals come here except for the sailing clubs. The actual beach isn’t big enough for that many people to distance properly so they’re jammed together. They spend the day at the beach with their picnic / barbecue/ beer, then some take their rubbish away but a lot leave it behind when they go for someone else to sort out. Some of them are young but a lot are families.
I used to take the dog for a walk down the beach at midnight because there was no one else there, but now there’s so much rubbish left I can’t do it any more because it’s not safe. The dog’s been ill, and I’m sure it’s because he picked something up over there, like a chicken bone. People use our garden to dump their rubbish in because they know we’ll find a bin to put it in.
Whitstable itself is rammed every day. The Thanet beaches, especially Margate, have tens of thousands of people on them. Last weekend there were coachloads being dropped off. The coaches should be limiting how many they carry but looking at the numbers getting off that wasn’t happening.
I’m not seeing much evidence that people are being sensible.

I have to confess the difference between "too busy" and "over-crowded" escapes me🤭
I live half a mile from the South coast so have seen at first hand a total disregard for others - distancing especially - on and near local beaches.
My worry is that is what we can expect from supporters when games do resume . . . especially at half time, at key moments in the game (89th minute winner, etc) and when it rains and people seek shelter.
