I do think there is an element, probably subconsciously, that referees will go yellow and allow VAR to intervene if needed. I don't have any stats, but I'd imagine there are a lot more yellows upgraded to reds than there are the other way around. The Newcastle vs Wolves is a prime example of this. Not a clue how he didn't get red straight away.Apart from it doesn't work like that. Even though VAR corrects the decision the referee, and any ARs / 4th official deemed to be complicit, will get given an incorrect KMD and get a maximum mark of 7.9.
Not convinced on how bothered they would be on the mark they get once they get to PL. They're highly unlikely to be demoted permanently, so a poor mark may mean doing a Championship game one week. But their marks carry a lot less weight compared to a L4,3 etc.
