this guy sums it up in a nutshell

'The problem is though, the refs KNOW they're being assessed and their game completely changes. The teams then know they're being assessed and give him a hard time for it! The whole thing becomes comedic and frustrating as a player due to the lack of consistency shown from one week to the next!'

The fact of the matter is players moan. They moan about consistency, they moan about decisions, they moan about having to help set up the goal posts, they moan abot paying subs. Players moan! I moaned when I played and I see the same moaning now as a referee. Ask yourself one question - If all referees were consistent to robot standards players would be moaning about the lack of personality of the referees! This is a no win situation and human nature.

Referees of course also moan, but privately, to other referees on forums!!!
