Match called off in firt minute due to fog!!!

Can't believe a referee, 2 assistants AND an assessor let it get to this.
This was a pretty big match that 150 had paid to get in!!!

Referee: 'I've officiated in worse. I wanted to see if the fog would clear.'
Not too bright this one.

If you can't see the opposite diagonal flag from any corner flag - NO MATCH.
Preferably check BEFORE the match.

Sounds ridiculous but there's a valid reason and explanation. It sounds as though the referee was mindful of the massive fixture backlog St Austell currently have and he was trying to help by delaying his decision as late as possible.
As well as being in the FA Vase semis, St Austell have 8 (eight) games in hand on the league leaders. And how many weeks of the season remain?

You shouldn't start a game if you can't see one corner flag by standing by the opposite one

It's a "rule" as well as the rolling/rebounding ball on the ground

The referee has the decision on whether a match should be played. I cannot understand any input the assessor had.
