Therein lies the chronic inconsistencies of Premier League refereeing and VAR protocols. Minimal contact on the toe and went down like he was shot by a sniper. Yet a couple of days ago, we saw a yellow card for simulation after far more contact
Never a penalty…. There’s not enough contact what so ever, the Newcastle player steps over the ball and the only contact is the side of the foot as he throws himself to the floor.
How and why VAR haven’t sent the Ref for another look is un-fathomable.
I thought Clattenburg described it well. There was contact, so not a clear C&O error, however if the ref had not whistled then it was also NOT a C&O error to not give a penalty!
Wood's first two goals as a direct result of two excellent advantages by Chris K. The second in particular was not clear, but paused his almost whistle and was well rewarded. A great Xmas present to watch!
