From the BBC website, Football Gossip:
FC United of Manchester have protested to the Football Association over broadcaster BT's insistence that their FA Cup first round tie against Chesterfield takes place on a Monday night. The club say they are willing to forego the £65,000 they will receive for the match being televised to keep it on a weekend for supporters

Now FC united of Manchester have progressed so far, they reach the problem of their principles v TV money. We all know who will win, but what do you think should win?

The Ref Stop
If they want to lose out on TV money, national coverage and the publicity that come from it fine. There are plenty of other non league clubs who would happily have it instead

Whilst football needs TV money, unfortunately there are occasions where TV demands outweigh common sense and what's reasonable for the paying public.

Admittedly cup competitions can be difficult to organise and accommodate fixtures to suit everyone, but I certainly think a more common sense approach should be taken to the scheduling of league fixtures. For example, whilst it makes no difference to the home side, asking a South coast/London team to travel up to the North East or vise versa for a weekday evening/Christmas period game seems excessive and unnecessary!

Here's a couple of questions though;

How far do you go with this? Do they refuse to accept TV money if they get into the football league?

If they draw Man Utd away in the third round do they refuse it to be moved? Do they even refuse to sell tickets as after all they are protesting that club?

LUFC are currently trying to stage some sort of protest about the number of times they appear on SKY. For home games, the crowds dip, the atmosphere drops and every team raises their game to play us. The first action was to restrict the number of away tickets we took from other clubs (unwise considering they are already massively oversubscribed). This has been reversed. Now consultations are taking place between representatives of a new fans group who are planning to buy a controlling share in the club and the TV company.

In addition, the positioning of their cameras (SKY) has come under scrutiny this week when they set up one blocking the view from the disabled area in front of the Kop.

Thursday night is the ideal time to show Leeds United - midweek drama/comedy. They are not good enough to occupy a proper football slot at present....
Instead of Salford, we should have had Leeds on the TV - we are Leeds and we moan about everybody else...;)
