It's a thought.
For less than £8 you could invest in a pen would looks like a normal PEN which fits in your shirt pocket. It's records what you see and hear.
What do you think as a tool on the FOP?

The Referee Store
it could be very beneficial, you could look back after a match, see anything you missed or if you could have been in a better position to see :)

think about it, this way you can see things from your point of view!!!!!

Ryan, it might be OK for if you move up to adult football, but you probably wouldn't be allowed to use it in youth football because you'd have to get consent from all of the parents to have their children recorded. :p

I was thinking that it could be beneficial for reports and justifications of your actions after the match. Especially if an appeal came out over an issue of Abusive language, this is the thinking that I am getting for the product. The referee after all has no protection or any way of backing his version of events up.

Am I right in thinking that appeals will only be hear if there is evidence that the wrong person has been sent off (mistaken identity) or there is video evidence? If you video record incidents, do you not then have a duty to make the CFA aware of that in the match report so that the offender is in a position to determine if they should appeal or not?

They can't appeal because they simply claim you're not correct so no, it wouldn't ever help in that situation. (Well, to be completely honest, they can appeal, it will just be turned down.)

For your own game / use - each to their own - was thinking of a gro pro chesty for an upcoming friendly where they had stated the same. Some academies use a GoPro on the youth players and asses from there (so they are recording their own players parents that have aready siged up).

If anyone on the FOP is under 18 then you would need consent from parents / guardian for its use (even if you were to keep it for personal use, there is no definition of what" personal use" is ...... yes inc that!)

For submission as evidence - various laws have been interpreted (from other walks of life in the UK) that the video and or audio is insumissable unless you have the consent of every person that appears on it either in picture or sound (good luck if you want to declare this and pass round the declaration to be signed pre match - maybe do it whilst explaining the spray tin, sorry couldn't resist)

BUT ....

A transcript of said video IS submissable, and no authorisation needed as it is not their physical picture or voice that is being used, only a written trnascript of such.

Why do you think you need these tools? Referees have managed without them at grassroots level for a very, very long time. You would be better served by learning how to recognise offences, signal restarts and differentiate the tone of your whistle depending on the type of offence/restart. When you reach the professional game, then consider using these toys.
