And there was a second half...?

The avuncular one
On Saturday I had a bit of an odd one. Normal game, nothing special in terms of incident or my work rate.

First half went by without incident. Early in the second half I started to feel disorientated, out of sorts almost like I was in a dream. Thought "just finish the game and sort it out afterwards".

After the game I get to the changing room and I can't remember the second half. Or much of the game at all, pretty much nothing about the whole day! Go home and don't remember the journey so head to hospital where they tell me I have had a tia or mini stroke. Bit of a shock. Seems like it was a mini tia as I scored very lowly on the check list the doctor had, but still, not good.

I am back to normal by the time I am in hospital and fragments of events of the game have come back to me. Very little about the second half though. Checking my match card though I was recording incidents as I should have.

Now got myself a week or so off waiting for a specialist apt and not allowed to drive until given the green light.

Bloody dangerous thing this refereeing lark.

Get better soon! Health is always the most important thing obviously, and I hope it comes back all clear for you Supermonkey.

Blooming hell Ben, not good. Will you still be Ref'ing or have you cancelled your next fixtures? Fingers crossed all is well and it gets sorted.

Yeah i am fine now, feel back to normal more or less. Will take this weekend off and try and get a game within walking distance for next weekend (the joys of no car!) if there is one available. Doctor said gym activities were fine. But no going for solo runs! I am sure 90 minutes on a very much not solo run on a football pitch is fine! Joking aside I'll check it out before getting back on the pitch.

Either way hope to be back by February.

Oh s**t! That's not good to hear, hope that you recover soon and that your back refereeing soon. That sounds very nasty that does. All the best for a quick recovery!

Bloody hell! All the best for a swift recovery

Good luck mate. If its any help the long term prognosis with early intervention is very good. Keep my fingers crossed for you.

Had my specialist appointment today. Whatever happened, according to the consultant it luckily wasn't a tia, they don't know what it was. Modern medical science eh? Dehydration, migraine, low blood sugar amongst a host of possible culprits but I will never know. Unless it happens again.

Green light to get back out in the pitch yay

Awesome news! Just need the weather to improve.

Going through similar with my missus at the moment, so scary times!

Best of luck super, being out of the game for any period of time is awful... Glad you've made a recovery and hope it doesn't happen again
