My first game

The Referee Store
Only just getting around to finally doing my first game. Had a few personal issues... which set me back. No harm in getting more advice from people.
No probs... good luck with the game, we've all been there!

With your pre match instructions less is more. Do not talk your sef into a corner.
I say look guys you have been playing long enough to know what right and whats wrong. If yu want to have a game of football thats great but if you just want to kick each other Im not going to let that happen. Work with me with your gobby player and then explain to the CARs what I expect of them. Toss the coin and off we go

Thanks mate. Really helpful advice!

Easy to type this and less easy to convince yourself of it but to all the adults there - mos;t very closely related to a player don't forget - you will be the least important person on the pitch!

It will seem to you that you are the centre of attention, but trust me, especially at this age group, you won't be.

Be confident and that includes on the 'small' decisions - throw ins; GKs v corners - if you show that you are 100% sure of a decision (even if you're not!) you'll get less 'feedback'

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks mate! Quality advice. That'll make me feel better on the pitch. Naturally you do feel like that, but you're 100% correct.

Quick question... in under 12s football do they use the pass back and offsides laws? Or is everything still the same. I can't seem to find this information anywhere

I’d check with the league. When I played u12 - I’m 16 now so not long ago - we still played 7-a-sides. That’s now changed to 9-a-sides, so things change often. What’s the case this season may change next season.

In my son's league they play all rules at that age group. Its 9v9, shorter halves but all other laws applied including offside.

As said above google the league your game is run by and look for a rules/policy section. Most will do a compact table summary looking something like this -
