We can debate whether or not Casemiros Red was a clear and obvious error but I have a different question.

United confirmed today that they wouldn’t appeal the red card. Do appeals still exist in the Prem? I thought I’d read somewhere that after the introduction of VAR, red cards could no longer be appealed (due to the fact that a second referee has already checked the refs decision)

Was this fake news, something I just made up or is there a basis of truth to it. Or am I just going mad

the context given to the incident by several fan cameras show the situation in a much better light than that shown by the VAR views/tv

You certainly can still appeal, spurs appealed a red card given to son at everton (in the incident which led to gomes breaking his leg/ankle?) and it was (rightly) successful

I'm very surprised they haven't appealed as one replay clearly showed that he had hold of the opponent's collar, not neck. Can only assume they were worried about an extra game being added for a frivolous appeal, and if that happened he would miss the league cup final. As it is he will miss Leeds twice and Leicester at home, they probably feel they can cope without him in those games.
