So after so many matches with glasses and any rain means I have to take them off and risk having my decisions questioned.

So after advice from a match day coach, I’m now trying contact lenses.
Any advice? Should I wear a cap when it rains? Take them out straight after if it rains?

What’s people’s experience and advice?

I wore lenses for several seasons as a referee and AR, and rain/snow were never an issue.
Good luck!

Just wear contacts, if fitted correctly shouldn't be any problems. I normally put them in for the day.

I’m another who wore them for many years whilst Refereeing. Have never been a problem whether it rain or shines or freezing, but once game has finished and you are back home to take them out, especially when you are still getting use to them, because they can make your eyes sore - they did me anyway.

Thanks. It was just all the warnings I got about water getting in your eye from the doc!

Due to my prescription I had to use 30 day ones so I’m getting used to taking them in and out a bit. ;)

Multifocal is just amazing tech in a contact lens. I can see at distance and I can read my ref app on my watch. Was going to try it on today’s match, but it got cancelled due to frozen pitch.

Good advice about removing them before swimming and never to wear overnight/when sleeping because oxygen can’t get to your eyes etc.

Used to be a contact lense wearer. As I got older though my eyes got too dry so they became very uncomfortable. I can see fine without them, just can’t read too well so anything I write is massive and I use Refsix so that makes things easier

I have worn contacts for over 1000 matches, including insane snow, wind, rain and heat. Touch wood, not one has folded, fallen out or split during activity.

Twenty years ago I used to get dry eyes - until I found a type that works for me (30-day Total30 and their “100% water surface” - and various “identical” other brands).

I’m interested to know how you get on with multifocals. I am having some changes in close up vision so multifocals are tempting - but I presume that they bring a loss of peripheral vision that would be a major disadvantage… but I haven’t tried them…)

Have you had challenges with the glare of floodlights while wearing contact lens?

That's because there's an amoeba that can blind you within 24 hours in some water. The risk is very small but obviously the consequences are awful.

I wear contacts while refereeing and have done for years. I wouldn't dream of wearing glasses if only for safety reasons.
