Level 7 Referee
Arsenal vs Man united 31:48, referee gave a foul. I don't understand, Jesus was competing with Maguire for an Aerial ball. I can't find what's wrong with Jesus's action. Any hints? Thanks!

The Ref Stop
I can give many reasons. Some legitimate and some with a touch of sarcasm. Don't forget this is a subjective decision.
The biggest reason is safe refereeing as EPL generally allows a lot more physicality and any league I know.

At this level of football, this is not enough level of contact to typically be given as a foul. But the defender used his experience to sell the decision to the referee and (with this exception!) it's not normally a decision that lives long in the memory ... unlike if a foul had NOT been awarded and a goal scored. Ain't that right @Big Cat ??

I did try to look for the push many times over the video but can't find the sign or push :-(
that'll be because there isn't one, maguire dives knowing the ref will give the defensive free kick (because that's what we as refs, not just at the top level tend to do)

'we' (royal we) are so quick to give soft / safe fouls like this when there's zero chance if the roles were reversed you'd get a pen for it

I can't find what's wrong with Jesus's action
Honestly, it might be me being subjective or the angle. It looks like Jesus kicked out with his leg first into Maguires and knocked him off balance (we don't have the refs angle). Could also have interpreted his fall and pulling on Maguire as impeding the movement of the defender to play wthe ball ... but also this

Don't forget this is a subjective decision.
So at the end of the day ... it's that to me :D

It’s quite clear that the big, strong , muscular Manchester player was the victim of a horrific challenge from the smaller , slight Arsenal attacker. Rightly so the big defender went down like the proverbial ton of bricks! Convincing the referee that a foul had taken place. 😉

Sorry, I refuse to watch football these days,. Upsets me too much

Because the red hippo lost in that month’s game of hungry hungry hippos at stockley park, so it was Arsenal’s turn to be conspiracy targets. IYKYK. 🕵🏻‍♂️

Jesus barely moved and Maguire was moving towards him, how could he impede...
As I said, it is subjective and I don't necessarily agree with calling it a foul at this level. Simply answering the OP question. There is enough there to interpret it that way.
