    David Coote leaked video

The Ref Stop's 'Gear up for the Game' tagline suddenly takes on a whole new meaning.

Junior/Youth So what is the right age to give Reds?

But they know exactly what they're up to when they do the deliberate action of, say, tripping. They're not 8 or 9 years old any more. Had one at U13 yesterday: gave yellow card.

Should I include in dismissal report

It's a red. They can't say that, 13 years old or not. They know it's not on.

    Pen shoot out

What Rusty said. Unfortunate for the young lad who's keeper, but why allow a still-moving ball to go into his goal?

    Trainee Ref advice

Agree with the above. Age is no issue - I trained when I was 42, so no teenager! I also wear glasses and it's not an issue. Yes, you get the odd comment, but it's rare, and you learn how to deal with these things through the way you more broadly conduct yourself and communicating in the right...

Junior/Youth speaking to 16+ year olds

You were spot on in your wording. Firm, clear and polite. What would the CWO have preferred you say exactly? I cannot see how any of what you said should provide anyone with an issue. Perhaps if players learnt their place in the game a little more and thought through what they said before...

    Junior/Youth keeper handball / crying

Couldn't disagree more. It's all about education at the younger ages. Coaches, more often than not, do not do this, nor do they care. Often, they do not know the Laws themselves and haven't bothered to read up on them, so the ref's role. in these situations, is to calmly and clearly fill that...

    RefChat is now a teenager

It is. I'm just a Level 7 and love it - this place gives me the advice I need as I benefit from everyone's shared experiences. I'd sure be a lonelier grassroots ref without it.

    Sheffield United v Wolves

Yes - he makes contact and it impedes the attacker. Penalty.

    Newcastle Vs Arsenal

Agree. Havertz is endangering another player's safety irrespective of whatever contact is made. He's out of control - it's more than just 'reckless'. The elbow has intent behind it and is premeditated and is VC. The push is a foul, so no goal.

U11's - Direct or Indirect free kicks?

You're right and he's wrong. Up to U10 is mini-soccer and all FKs are direct. U11 and upwards, there's IDFKs and DFKs, so what you gave for the keeper's action was correct. He needs to appreciate his team are U11s now and so the Laws he plays be have altered from last season.

    Slurs and education

Yes - all send offs. No question. Any context.

    Ref assault

As @one says, don't give him the win by letting it turn you away from reffing. We all hope the punishment will be correct.

Disheartening game and a day of two halves

As GraemeS said, he didn't remove his players and his comment about stud marks is irrelevant; tackles are a part of the game and stud markings not always due to a player being fouled. Ignore his comment. If you are under 18 report him to the League Welfare Officer. If he doesn't 'use you...
