I see a shove in the back fro the first goal.
And Silva stick his left leg out to initiate contact for the second.
Third was a cracker mind.

But I am confused. I didn't see the penalty VAR in real time...

I am ok with the first contact being ‘strength’ & a coming together.

The second, penalty, is re-refereeing for me, where is the bar for clear & obvious?

Lee Mason on VAR.

How many of us would allow the first goal, not really convinced I would, was it just a barge. The 2nd for me really makes things hard for grassroots Refs as I can’t see why that’s a penalty. It was all initiated by Silva.

As a blue:

The more I see the Haaland goal, the more I think the contact with the defender is a foul. Starts off going for shoulder but defender turns and it goes into his back. It’s a shame because his control to bring the ball down is phenomenal, but I think it’s a foul.

Clear and obvious error to miss the contact on Haaland’s let by the Brighton keeper. Don’t know how that’s not given as a penalty.

Not sure why VAR is giving the Bernardo penalty. For me that’s a textbook example of when not to give a penalty - Bernardo clearly leaves his leg out and initiates contact. I’d probably go so far as to call it cheating tbh, and I can’t see why Pawson has overturned his decision.

More broadly, I thought Pawson had a poor game, which is a shame as he used to be one of my favourites a few seasons ago and seemed to have bags of potential. Seemed out of position a lot and his decisions look slow and lacking confidence. Don’t know what’s gone on but he seems a shade of his former self which is a shame. The players latched onto this quickly and it seemed to cause control problems for him throughout.

I liked Pawson previously also

might be the introduction of VAR has changed officials, where as before they did have free range to express their own abilities, they are now mere administrators

Kavannagh same for me, I saw a new Clattenburg in him but that wont now come to fruition

on the flip side, VAR would have made Moss and Friend better officials

With the increased physical contact they are allowing this season I'm just about OK with the goal.

The problem is with the penalty. It took an age, play went on for several minutes whilst Lee Mason checked it, didn't time it but I'd say at least three minutes. If it takes that long it clearly isn't an obvious error, and I am baffled how between Mason and Pawson they didn't see that Silva 100% initiated the contact, there was simply no reason for his left leg to move out to the left into Dunk's planted leg as it did. Don't so much blame Pawson as we know they are under pressure when told to look at the screen, but how Mason can watch that for three minutes and come to the conclusion of penalty just defies belief. To make matters worse, those minutes that were lost when they went back for the penalty should have been added but weren't.

It seems that Howard Webb is taking over on 1st December, and his first job is going to have to be to sort out the absolutely mess that Mike Riley has left VAR in.

It seems like we all broadly agree. I felt 1st one just about crossed the line but can see why it’s 50:50 on giving it or not. Silva just cheats for me, it’s that simple. And did they show the foul on Haaland to Pawson, I can’t remember but something tells me they only seemed to show him 1 angle and not the one that shows clear contact. I spoke to him a few weeks back and he was a really nice fella but is getting some criticism lately.

Nope, they didn’t show him the foul. Was reviewed by VAR but determined to be no foul, Pawson wasn’t asked over to the monitor
