OFFINABUS RC whilst issuing YC for foul tackle - do you put both through?

I really ought to know this answer but never had it occur before so just wanted to ask the wise heads on here to make sure I do it correctly.

U16s game today. In the process of issuing a YC for a foul tackle to a defender and before I’ve even been able to ask his name he’s aggressively told me to “f*ck off”. Immediately issue a RC for OFFINABUS.

My question is this - I never showed him the YC given how quickly it was upgraded to RC so do I still put the yellow card through, or as I never finished administering the YC do I just put the RC through?

As a secondary question, did I err in not completing the YC process before issuing the RC? His comment was so aggressive and he’d clearly lost his head (I was subsequently informed he’s diagnosed with autism) that I was keen to get him off the pitch ASAP so it never crosses my mind to complete the process for the YC.

Many thanks in advance!

Put both in, you'd decided to caution for the foul and not showing the yellow doesn't cancel the sanction.
If the yellow wasn't communicated at all then that's not best practise (not communicating it even if care not shown).

@The Gump as both offences occurred then both cards should be shown. Pointing to each offence so it's clear that you havent lost the plot and thinking you are showing a 2nd yellow.

Think of it like if the player committed two yellow cards in quick succession. You'd show all the cards.

Thanks James. The yellow was communicated insofar as I had it out of my pocket and was about to write his name down, but not shown because of how quickly he told me to eff off. I’d played an advantage after the initial foul so the player was already agitated when I then began the process after the advantage (shot wide) and the captain was doing his best to calm him down, and because the player stormed off, I went over and explained to the coach what had happened/what was said, so both coach and captain had the YC communicated to them, even if it wasn’t shown.

I’ll make sure I show both cards in future.

I would like to stress on the point that James made to avoid confusion. Referee body language (just like in James' profile pic 😜) is one of the biggest game management tools referees have. Great that coach and captain were spoken to and know what happened but the body language in delivery of cards is for everyone.

To be clear this is the process I would follow. Once the second offence has occurred before showing the card for the first actionable offence clearly point to the location that the first offence occurred, raise the yellow card, hold for a couple of seconds and then lower it. Then point to the location of the second offence, make sure it is clear that it is a different spot (even if they were close spots). then show the card for the second offence. If the second card is red then we are done but if it is a second yellow, after lowering the yellow my body language would be to point to both the different spots again and show number two with my fingers before showing the red card.

Once a red card is shown (straight red or second yellow -> red), it is the last card we show. Any 'offence' after that is a different process, in our case it is a separate incident report.

Super, thanks @one - never had this situation before (similar issue where I’d shown the YC for a sin bin and then was called an effing c so out came the RC) and every day in the middle is a learning day.

Put the YC through but separately emailed my the CFA’s Discipline team, RDO and league ref sec about my procedural error just in case any issues.

This place is a Godsend for those of us who rarely work as a team of three! 🙏

I remain amazed at the games y’all do so,o over there. I don’t think I would have stuck with it tht way. For me a big part of the joy is the team aspect.
