    Still Learning

Before I say how I would handle it, one thing I would say is don't think too much about it once you kick off the next game with that team. It will be a massive distraction, make you more prone to mistakes and your focus will not be on the job in hand. That said if he starts... If it's just a...

    Match Control - AA

Come on eh, you don't need to interfere every time someone disagrees do you? Oh, you do.

    First Game Tomorrow

But you're still alive right? That's the important thing after a first game! For future reference up here generally academy games U14 and below we try to avoid cards, but with rolling subs if a manager sees you talking to one of his players as if you would ordinarily caution they'll bring them...

Take this as a positive @Andy A . As a new ref you are still calibrating your barometer in terms of straight reds and dissent bullsh*t. You only find your limits after game time, experience and asking yourself the 'was I right', exactly how you have here. In a situation with somebody...

The assessment game that had literally everything...

Had a game yesterday, my third of 3 assessments. Finished Red 1-6 Blue, 7 yellows, one red, two penalties, a manager sent off, a substitution refused and a partridge in a pear tree. I knew it was to be assessed as the assessor is also the secretary at my RA, and he mentioned it at Tuesdays...

You forget the overall underpinnings of the advantage rule mate - it can be used however and whenever a player deems it to his advantage, regardless of if his team committed the offence. Hence the term Advantage! Well done mate, good refereeing. Did you remember it was a DFK restart, not IDFK?

    Know your competition rules...

First Academy meeting of the season mate. Apparently it is a Cheshire Ref. Not surprised in some ways though, academy seems to have descended into point scoring a bit more than previously, although that's another story entirely!

    Know your competition rules...

Was shown a video at a meeting recently that really drove it home... KNOW YOUR COMPETITION RULES!!!

Are Team Sheets Mandatory under the LOTG?

It can't have. How would a league know which players had played, their registration status or their suspension status? My Sunday league doesn't have 'team sheets' per se, but each team mus submit the players that played each game to the league.

Don't you just hate it when...

It does tend to be the exception rather than the rule, just tends to be at the wrong times - such as the day after 120 mins in a fast paced cup game!

Don't you just hate it when...

These were both the opposite - both keepers could quite easily take a kick from hands that would take the first bounce on the edge of the D!

Don't you just hate it when...

You have a game where both goalkeepers have absolutely monsterous kicks. And the County Cup game you did yesterday went to extra time and penalties. My poor legs!

    First game

While that's good, I wouldn't be judging your own performance by it. You'll get many games where you have an excellent game and very few handshakes. Just shows the fickleness of it!

Are Team Sheets Mandatory under the LOTG?

There are always team sheets, every league requires to know what players have played when. The difference is whether or not team sheets have to be presented to the referee or not, and that is dependent on 'competition rules'.

    Open Age Absolute Disaster

@dylan22 and @Paul Clarke get your chins up fellas. We have all been there. We have all lost control of games and been blamed for the actions of players after that. The trick is not to let it happen more than once! In all seriousness there is one way of looking at it at this point - it's...

    Pass Back

I had one last week. Attacker through on goal on the break away, gets into penalty area, defender makes a good recovery challenge, wins the ball, has it under control and touches it a yard in front of him (I think ready to boot it upfield), keeper just comes and picks it up. Bit of a stupid...

    Refs sec's/Closed dates

Typically 3 over a weekend. They all have different kick off times over a Saturday/Sunday. Two of them only give me 1 game a month as they are massively oversubscribed refs vs competing teams, 2 give me a couple of games a month and one 3 iver the course of a month. At the moment though it is...

    Refs sec's/Closed dates

I get your thoughts regarding promotion. I never plan to exceed level 5 for the reasons I hinted at before - regardless of ability, due to work and family commitments I'll never be able to make the commitment and set it high enough in my priorities As required at level 4.

    Refs sec's/Closed dates

I tend to have an internal promise to myself that I will always honour first come first served wherever possible, regardless of league or level. Maybe wrong but I think that's fair.
