Two thirds of referees suffer verbal abuse....

Listened to a radio clip on the BBC website about referees being abused and one of the lads said that a coach once kicked his changing room door down and that it's not what you expect to happen but you have to be ready for it. Why should we have to be ready for this to happen? I don't turn up...

    Miss timed tackle?

Possibly one of the worst timed tackles ever? https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/watch--horrific--two-footed-lunge-goes-unpunished-----as-it-was-on-nobody-135632740.html?cmp=ukfb

What do you do before a game?

Interested to see if anyone else has any little routines before a game, not when you arrive at the ground but before you leave the house? For me, kit is packed the night before then in the morning I'll play a few games of FIFA (other sports games are available) and then eat before getting...

    Mark Clattenburg, Chelsea vs. Liverpool

Something that I did think of last night regarding the Lucas incident... Him and Emre Can both came in from each side, is it ooossible that Clatts couldn't tell which one of them had taken the man and as both had been cautioned (I think) didn't want to send the wrong man off? Just a thought...

Some people just can't help themselves

The league have been informed and reports have been sent in, certainly not happy that the keeper felt it was acceptable to carry on his rant in the car park. Frustration durning the game I can deal with by issuing a caution when it reaches a level that I feel is dissent but these continued...

Some people just can't help themselves

Under 16 game yesterday morning, blue vs White, two teams that will inevitably be at the top of the table come the end of the season so everyone was expecting a closely contested game and it certainly didn't disappoint. White go 1-0 up before my first caution to blue centre back "are you blind...

Open Age Name & Shame The Bad Players/Teams

This may just be me being young and naïve as well as still relatively inexperienced but I can't understand this mentality at all. Approach every game with a clean slate and don't to out looking for trouble just to "keep somebody in check" if they deserve a caution by all means issue one but...

    Referee in a bib

I've had a school game before, got changed and filled my pockets as I normally do, went out and completed a warm up and just as the other team arrive I tell the other schools member of staff I won't be refereeing if they can't change or get enough bibs. A debate ensued and I went home 10 minutes...

    Helicopter on the pitch

Dogs is the strangest thing I've had so far, public field and old bloke let his dogs off the lead. Suddenly, goalkeeper shouts "Ref, there's a dog on the pitch!! Now there's 2 of them" had to try quite hard not to laugh.

    nutrition question

Can anybody reccomend any good sports nutrition magazines or online journals? It's something I'm interested in and want to learn a bit more about as it's likely to be part of my university course this time next year.

When to book and when not too !

As @Matthew says, fouls at younger ages are often due to clumsiness or not yet being that good at football (no disrespect to the youngsters) as they've not been playing the game long. I've very rarely seen a player that's gone in for a tackle that age and looking like he's meaning to hurt the...

    Junior/Youth First Cup game

Just use which ever goal area is in better condition, probably won't be much of a difference. In terms of managing who can and who can't take a penalty, I've always been told to ensure that subs that were subs at the full time whistle stay of the pitch until the conclusion of the penalty shoot out.

Allocated to a match where you personally know players

I think something like this, where tuts clearly going to be a one off, then you're right to come off the fixture. I personally won't come off my first fixture of the season where I know a few players because if I do, I won't referee at all this season. I go to easily the largest school in the...
