    Returning Ref

@Mintyref has a similar topic here that I've just responded to - he's been out 18 months. Perhaps he's your man?

    0 tolerance approach

Do any of you think the 'stricter' implementation in the top flight from this season has made it any easier for you to implement at an amateur level? To me it hasn't been implemented consistently enough to do so just yet. Where it has been, it seems to be being well-received by fans - most are...

    Match Ratings

I thought this sub-forum would be the best place for this - apologies if it belongs better elsewhere. At the end of each game I'll sign off a form confirming the result etc. On the form, the home & away manager will be able to give me a rating out of 10. I assume this is the norm(?) - but is...

    Getting games..?

On a slightly different note, I wasn't really given any advice before the completion of my course as to how to communicate with your secretary. I don't know why it didn't occur to me for a couple of months, but you'll make their life a lot easier if you get in touch with them as soon as you know...

    First match in 18 months

Welcome back! I've actually been wondering what happens when you get injured in the world of amateur football refereeing? Does anyone have any experience of having to end their own game early? What happened from there?

    4-3 Promotion List

My mate/tutor is on there. What are the actual implications - can this lot now ref at conference level for example?

    Vardy's dive

I just think that if you looked at it from the opposite angle to that below, it looks as though he's trying to shift his body across to gaint better control of the ball, putting himself in front of the defender in a position which would allow him to shield. Credit to Moss though, his positioning...

    Kick Off

Cheers all for the advice so far. It was an U16 game so full size goals but had put the wrong cross bar in one. Think the points on communication can help this especially. It's odd that we should have to tell them given they undoubtedly know that when the whistle is blown, they're expected to...

    Kick Off

Was doing an U16 game yesterday, my 4th game refereeing. Got there, introduced myself and realised that one goal was smaller than the other so got that corrected, got the match ball, warmed up etc. Just before 1.30pm (KO time), the home side let me know they're ready to go. At this point one...

    Appointments!

I've had three in the last two months and I need one!

Hi I'm new and need advice

I've just finished a course where it was much the same, again the theme being the younger lads who've had it paid for. Understandable in some respects given their age but also frustrating for the others. Suppose the fact you could join a refereeing association pretty much immediately does help...

Trouble Reporting - Whole Game System

You're a gent, thanks! I've been in touch, still not sorted as he had trouble finding it too but he's gonna give me a ring back! Care to share - I asked my mate who mentioned Excel but I wouldn't have a clue what to put in there? For this league the only option is 'all teams in the league'...

Trouble Reporting - Whole Game System

I'm having trouble reporting my game from yesterday. I can find the home side when I search but not the away side, they are not available to select from the list of clubs that are there. I emailed my RDO for advice yesterday but no response as yet. I'll see her tomorrow evening anyway as I've...

    First game handbook

Cheers. Fair point on the changing rooms. Yeah, was glad to get there early. As predicted there was a game beforehand but it did help watching a bit of it, in fact on my return to the changers after it I had a good chat with an older ref who'd just taken charge of that match. Didn't realise...

    First game handbook

There doesn't seem to be any attention paid to FA efforts in that particular league. Results were published & league tables available publicly. As for LOTG, players couldn't be sent off for example. Perhaps not a bad thing at that age but I think it was mainly done because literally no game at...

    First game handbook

Cheers for the advice, I've edited it a little to reflect the consensus thus far. I've got myself two watches, been out to by astro trainers for it (set an example and all that) and have my gear on underneath my ridiculously oversized Wenger-style jacket I had from coaching. Think the prep...

    First game handbook

Got my first game at 5pm (u17s, a prime age for abuse from both parents and players I am sure!) and I'm starting to brick it a bit now. This is the 10th appointment I've had but with the weather I've yet to actually get one played - today's had been called off but they've managed to book a 4G...

    First 3G game yesterday

My experience on 3G seems to vary. There is one in Newcastle (coincidentally where I'm reffing tomorrow/today) that knackers my back after around 45 mins. But then there is a much newer one closer to home that I have no issues with.
