    Continuation holding and DOGSO

My interpretation would be no, we can't do both. It's one offence, so we can choose when to penalise it, but we can't give the best of both worlds. Interesting point though. One that would come down to the spirit of the laws and how you interpret that. My interpretation is that if it were 2...

    Grimsby penalty

Absolutely true. We've all given that throw in defensively because our AR has flagged too quickly and even though we've seen a tiny deflection off of the defender, we know barely anyone else did, so it's the easier option for credibility (or similar). Technically, this could be called cheating.

Tamworth Vs Hartlepool - Feint in the run up

Nobody is saying it's difficult, but a penalty kick already gives a team statistically at least a 75% chance of scoring a goal, often in situations where the punishment doesn't fit the crime (obviously for DOGSO penalties that 75% chance is warranted, but for an accidental trip on the side of...

    LIV v MCI

There seems to be a misconception (or at least I believe it to be a misconception) from some referees that if you 'play advantage' the offence must be downgraded (DOGSO to caution, SPA to no caution). A misconception in such that this is only the case if the advantage accrues. Here, the...

    LIV v MCI

I don’t understand the confusion relating to the end scenario. I find it hard to believe Pawson didn’t see either of the blatant pulling offences so I’m assuming he used the common sense we could all apply if our decisions weren’t being checked by VAR. Ultimately, if the game was 1-1 and this...

    The new Nike Kit 26-30

So far as I'm aware, the FA are yet to confirm the expectation for officials on steps 2-6 of the NLS, so I'd advise L4 and above hold off on purchasing. The shorts thing may be good news for me. As a 5ft 10, 11 stone guy, I currently have to wear large shorts to be able to fit my thunder...

    Tottenham v Man City

Valid point, I just meant specifically as opposed to 'general unsporting behaviour'.

    Tottenham v Man City

USB as it is, its not clearly and obviously written in law to be a cautionable offence, although I'm aware it's been clarified that it can be. I can't personally picture any scenario where a player is deliberately brought down off the ball when it isn't part of an attacking move. I wouldn't call...

    Website problems

@Ross posted in here yesterday saying that he had done some work behind the scenes, mentioned something about Bing, and then said it should be working better but to let him know if we had any problems. 5 mins later I got the Resource limit reached message. 10 mins later I got back on and Ross's...

    IberCup Cascais 2026

If there's one thing I've learned at great expense recently it's that shoes and feet are all very different and what is comfortable for one person can be extremely uncomfortable for another purely because of the shape and mechanics of the foot. Sadly, sometimes these problems don't come to light...

    Tottenham v Man City

If a team mate has the ball and a simple pass to a player who will be ‘in on goal’ and the player who is the would be recipient is pulled down / tripped off the ball, that sounds like a promising attack stopped to me…

    Tottenham v Man City

I hadn't seen this but just been asked about it by a 2 work colleagues having a debate. One arguing it's a blatant foul and one arguing nothing wrong with it. (Both Liverpool fans so no bias really). I think Solanke plays the ball narrowly before playing Guehi's leg. Of course we know this...

    Middlesbrough Norwich

I wouldn't be opposed to 'deliberate or non deliberate nature of the foul' to be added as a minor 5th consideration regarding DOGSO. Only there to tip the scales if they're finely balanced.

    Stupidest cautions I've ever administered

Not sure in the scenario described you could describe it as dissent. Sounds like there was a fair time between the penalty award it happening, and it sounds like it was done clearly out of sh*thousery rather than anything else. I'm all for looking for ways to make things fairer, but I don't...

    Stupidest cautions I've ever administered

Nothing you can really do in that scenario except what you did. They may well have thought they'd take the cautions in an attempt to put the kicker off, but that's part of the game unfortunately. It's probably a disproportionate punishment in relation to the number of times it actually works (of...

    Grimsby penalty

I understand the position of the referee and what she may have seen and it’s absolutely a clumsy challenge from the defender, but the fall absolutely is cast iron evidence of simulation in my opinion.

    Grimsby penalty

Absolutely. Poor decision from the referee which I’m sure she’ll be disappointed with but the actions of the player should have him very embarrassed and I’m certain there will be a retrospective ban for successful deception of a match official.

    Choice of advantage

I don’t think there’s time to ask, makes it look like you’re indecisive. Just make a judgement call, including a consideration of how bad a foul it was. It it’s even remotely naughty, I’d give the foul so everyone knows you’ve seen it.

Huddersfield vs Luton - Hair Pulling

Not a criticism of the officials because they only get one look and the expectation on hair pulls is clear, but I do think we're entering dangerous territory on it. This is not a violent act. I think there needs to be some clarification.

    formal complaint

Once you get to level 4 and above you can see what clubs mark you and say about you. I've only had one sub 70 mark this season but it contained something written which factually did not happen as part of their justification. You just have to take it on the chin. In between typing this I've...
