I agree with the referee here. The keeper is not going to save that, regardless of whether the striker is there or not. Brave referee to over rule the linesman though.

You're right, he should kick it. However, if he's asked, I think it's easier to say yes or no, rather than either ignore him, or give an answer which could quite easily give off a negative impression.

If the keeper asks "Can I pick it up?" then I'll tell him yey or nay - I wouldn't shout out to him for every back pass though.

For some stupid reason, at the toss I decided to tell the players to be nice to me as I'd been out later than I should have the night before. Match control gone from second 1 of that game!
