Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

So you’re not comparing like for like. Whether you agree with it or not, grassroots is grassroots and elite/professional is elite professional, where it has often been the case over very many years that bans in elite/professional is often less than grassroots. The question really is, was his ban...

Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

    I wouldn’t say 8 matches is lenient.

Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

The bottom line is whether the Martinelli incident should be treated in the same way as Mitrocvic incident. In my view it does not, in your view it does not-but there is a heck a lot of difference between the two. I spose you could argue that for a hair pull incident involving players, it should...

Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

If we compare to the Fulham incident whereby the player was aggressive prior to, at the time of the push & subsequently compared to the Arsenal incident should both be treated the same - not in my eyes.

Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

I would say your comments are spot on James.

    IFAB changes for 26-27

So the introduction of IFAB to make the Laws of the Game simpler and worldwide are continuing to become more complicated. I truly do understand what they are trying to do (well, I think I do), but apart from the basics, they are becoming more unwieldy.

    Arsenal vs Chelsea UWCL

It was not classed as anything not even unsporting behaviour. Something just not right about it. Is this a case of different guidelines operating between the FA and our European counterparts!

    Bournemouth vs Man United

    - .-. ..- . (Morse code for “True”) 😝

    Bournemouth vs Man United

Good shout - I hadn’t broken the code at the time of my reply (looked to tell you the truth)!.

    Bournemouth vs Man United

Just because 2 pen decisions may have gone the other way, does not mean he had a stinker. That’s a comment that could easily be made by players, managers, spectators and armchair viewers. I would expect more constructive comments from a fellow Referee (or Observer).

    PAL v LEE

I don’t think you should ever worry it will look sh#t to the Observer for something that needs to happen, especially if you could have incorrectly sent the player off. Which would have been worse. In events you got away with it, but you put yourself under a lot of pressure.

    Millwall v Blackburn red card

    Very harsh imo.
  13. D

    WHU v Brentford

I wouldn’t say they rely on VAR, but they are clearly always aware there is a back stop! Perhaps that’s the same thing, but I would like to think there is a subtle difference.

    Wrexham- Chelsea

From the angle behind looking towards the defending/wrexham half it looks like it could be a yellow, but looking at the angle looking upfield it looks like a red. I’m content with a red - he should have just tried to play the ball - always helps!

    Grappling at corners

Only have to have watched the Preston NE v Oxford game last night to see that although there was some grappling (nothing more than usual over the years), the PL is at a different higher level. The amount I saw at PNE is as about as much as I see at grass roots. However, if they continue not to...

    FUL vs WHU

Though I would say v difficult to be consistent with that kind of scenario. My feeling is that in many cases it should just be treated as a coming together/normal football contact.

    FUL vs WHU

SkySports reporting of the proposed new IFAB laws

Ridiculous about players wanting to go on strikes when they play less time in the FA Cup than they ever used to & want all the trimmings of everything they receive - chauffeur driven cars to games/personal PA’s/pampered etc. It would not surprise me that with smaller squads of players in the...

    Keeper Injury/Tactic Talk

Clubs consider there is often a breakdown between Referees & themselves, but there is now becoming a disconnect between a Manager & spectators. The Manager dictates a tactical injury which spectators/neutral/television public do not want. They say VAR is killing the game, but this is too -...

    Leeds v Sunderland

I truly do understand where you are coming from, but I think that a hair pull has to be a red card, accidental or not - it happened. It may not be the most violent of acts in most cases we have seen, perhaps not even violent at all, but I think with the Laws covering the World for both male &...
