    Nightmare!

Just got home and checked my notebook to submit the caution to the local FA discipline secretary and, to my horror, realise I put the caution against the wrong name on the match sheet! I have emailed the local FA and I will pop round to the home club secretary's house tomorrow to change and...

    Umbro to Nike kit change?

I bought the nike shirt the other day, when it arrived I was a bit disappointed but that was probably because it was a bit too big, so I would probably recommend getting it in a size smaller than you usually go for, otherwise it has a sort of "golf shirt" feel about it. I sent mine back and have...

    Handball by striker?

That's what I thought in the game, I allowed the goal and incurred an enormous amount of stick from the players!

    Handball by striker?

I only ask because I remember seeing someone on here saying that if any contact with the hand is likely to result in a goal, it's a safer call to give the handball. In the game, the striker's arm was still outstretched from a previous movement

    Handball by striker?

Today I was refereeing a friendly (thank goodness!) game, where a defender attempted to clear the ball away from the penalty area. However, the ball hit an opposing attacker on the arm and went through to his team mate, who scored. Only thing is, the attacker who handled the ball was facing the...

Recovering from "one of those games..."

Totally agree with Gaz, after every game I write down 3 things to work on and 3 things I thought I did well in each game. It's amazing how much it improves your game...not only are you more aware of the things you are doing wrong (like positioning in my case), you are more inclined do things...

UNBELIEVABLE ... What would you of done here?

there was something very similar to this on the "you are the ref" column, the conclusion that keith hackett came up with was red card for DOGSO and indirect free kick on the goal area line, parallel to where the offence took place...

Open Age Denial of Goalscoring Opportunity?

i think when we did our course our instructor said that since it is the goalkeeper's "prerogative" to handle the ball inside the box, there can't really be any times when he can be cautioned or sent off for doing so, even if it denies a goalscoring opportunity

    Utd vs real

At first I thought red was harsh, it was dangerous when you look at where his studs were, but there was not intent to harm. However, LOTG say that "A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as serious foul play". Roy Keane was spot on, intent is irrelevant. Nani's...

    Junior/Youth Threatening Language

Only issue is that unless you're an appointed AR, the referee can't send a player off on your advice. If he didn't hear it himself, he has to refer to you in the misconduct report, and unless the AR in the report is appointed, the league will probably not do anything about it. At least that's...

    Respect badge

Hi guys, I've got 2 spare shirts (red, blue) which I use for when I am doing midweek school games, or when there is a colour clash in games that I am doing. Only thing is, they don't have FA badges like my black kit does. Does anyone know how I can get hold of some badges to attach to them...

Whats the Best Kit to buy? (New Ref)

Have a look on ebay for stuff, I've got the umbro respect kit (last season premier league) but they gave us that when we did our ref's course and it's ideal. The ones I've seen online go for about £30-45, or the shirt on its own is about £25ish. Otherwise, the Referee's Association do some...

    pay for promotion

I'm level 7 and in my first season, but due to weather conditions we have only completed about a quarter of the fixtures, so there's still loaaadds of matches still to be played. I was planning to just use this year for experience but I was wondering when would be a good time to go for promotion?

    Two footed tackle

Had one the other day where an u18 lad went in with 2 feet and won the ball cleanly, and was baffled to see that I had awarded a FK against him. I said that as he hadn't made contact with the player I wasn't going to caution him, but that if he had touched the player he would now be walking. My...

Dissent - When is it time for a yellow card?

I did a game the other day when I held that the striker had headed a ball forward instead of handling it (as the defending side claimed), he went on and missed. When the ball was out of play I was surrounded by players shouting at me, but one in particular was aggressive and, whilst he didn't...

    Disgrace.

Ideally FAW charge him with misconduct and ban him from all forms of football until the end of the season. Respect campaign is there to stop morons like this from treating refs the way he does. Needs to have the book thrown at him.

Cards and how to use them

I haven't used them in heavy rain yet but they seem to be fine. I normally use a biro, with a spare pencil in my pocket in case the pen runs out. No problems so far, but like I say I am yet to use them in anything more than light rain.
