@JamesL The Spanish team is the red team. @RefJef was saying that the Spanish players moved within 1m of the defensive wall. I believe, just like the 6 second rule, you shouldn't be too harsh with these situations. As long as no attacker is touching the defensive wall, just play on.

    law 8 toss of coin

The winner of the coin toss can choose to kick off in the second half by choosing which end to attack. The captain may not explicitly say that he is choosing to kick off in the second half but by choosing which end to attack, the captain is also choosing to kick off in the second half.

    Handball (Again)

That's a handball under both the old laws and the new laws. She moved her elbow towards the ball; deliberate handball remains an offense.

    law 8 toss of coin

If the coin toss winner chooses which end to attack, the coin toss loser does not have a choice and must kick off first half. However, if the coin toss loser is adamant he wants to kick off second half and the coin toss winner agrees, you could say to the coin toss winner "you could choose to...

    World Cup Aus Vs ITA

Sorry guys, I've been giving you wrong information. It looks like Premier League ARs will delay the flag. I got confused because ARs in the FA cup have not been delaying their flag when VAR is in operation. I wrongly assumed nothing will change for the Premier League. Again, apologies for...

World Cup New laws applied incorrectly?

What if a player from Team A kicks the ball, it deflects of a player from Team B, then hits the referee and falls to a player from Team B? According to your interpretation, Team A had possession but possession has now changed after the ball hit the referee. Therefore, a drop ball must be given...

    World Cup Aus Vs ITA

I see the logic but the AR doesn't really need to judge subsequent decisions because if a goal is not scored, the restart will be for the offside, and if a goal is scored, VAR will check subsequent decisions just as normal. Premier League ARs will raise the flag immediately next season.

    World Cup Aus Vs ITA

I agree it looks 'untidy'. UEFA and FIFA do it this way. I believe the flag should be raised immediately and the referee should decide whether to delay their whistle or not.

World Cup New laws applied incorrectly?

Remember that drop balls are now uncontested and can only be awarded to whoever last touched the ball. A deflection counts as a touch.

    Ready to play Dodgeball?

I'm not saying it will occur often; the point is that it can happen and it will happen and I think it's an unfair way of maintaining possession. I don't see the harm in treating the referee like a goalpost (as long as goalkeepers don't clean their boots on me); at least everyone knows what the...

    Ready to play Dodgeball?

The new law changes come into effect today including the award of a drop ball when the ball touches the referee and possession changes. So, when a player with the ball has nowhere to go and can't find a teammate, what will he do? Smash the ball at the referee. Am I missing something or has...

    Club AR misses offside

If a club linesman misses an offside but you see it, do you call it and risk uproar from the opposition or ignore the offside because the linesman didn't call it? Hypothetical example: A goalkeeper rushes off his line and is no longer the last defender - a defender standing on the goal line is...

    IDFK deflected into the goal

Thanks for the replies. The laws say that if the ball is kicked directly into the goal, award a goal kick but I was unsure how to interpret 'directly' so I thought I'd double check. It's interesting that teams tap the ball to a teammate who is instantly closed down when taking an IDFK close to...
