    First cards !!!!!!

Hmm, must just be a thing the teams don't do in my local league. Ah well, I'm still getting assigned games so I'm assuming I haven't had 20 0/100's

    First cards !!!!!!

How did you find out your marks? I've not seen any from my 20 games this season :|

    No ref day

Imagine if we all resigned from abuse, there'd be none of us left.

    Strong Gale

My matches today are the only ones not postponed on full time yet 😂 So this has got me thinking of other scenarios. Now I know that in the situation both teams want to play, the game goes ahead. What happens in the situation where one team does and one team doesn't? As it's not a safety issue...

    Strong Gale

Hi all, Before we start with the Southern softy chat ;) Down in the South West there is currently a considerable gale, I've gone outside to kick a ball and it's gone mental. Now for Senior football, I would say play on. But the two matches I have tomorrow are U13s, so lighter ball, more mental...

Dutch Referee Blog - Week 1 Laws of the Game Quiz 2018-2019

Thanks for highlighting that part, the amends section is one I never delve into as this is my first season. Will definitely dive in next time I pick up the book.

    New Ref 3rd Game wow!!!

Coincidentally I actually had this situation happen to me in one of my most recents games. Appeared that the CAR was arguing with the opposing players/coach around a couple of decisions. Asked the coach, but told the linesman to refrain from continuing with that. I did think to myself why I was...

Dutch Referee Blog - Week 1 Laws of the Game Quiz 2018-2019

Bare with me as I'm only 7 games in, but from what I've read wouldn't this still be a yellow even if it lead to a goal? If it would be downgraded it would be good to know why according to the LOTG for future reference.

    New Ref 3rd Game wow!!!

I wouldn't of even reminded him it was U14's. That language directed at you in the position he's in, his running the line for that match is done

    Coaches Questioning Every Decision

Hi all, On my off days where I don't have any fixtures, I watch referees at other matches to see if I can pick up any pointers. One thing that keeps cropping up, are coaches questioning the official on particular decisions. In the latest one I watched, a coach from one of the teams was...

    None use of cards

I think you're stepping into dangerous territory by saying that because you don't want to progress you don't need to do things by the book. You're running the risk of an assessor having a field day with a RC not being used when it should.

    None use of cards

I wouldn't let things slide just because of the score, you're opening yourself up to some difficult scenarios. At that age group, we're advised to take a player who we would give a RC to to their coach and advise they sub the player off. This is again a grey area, with what age group would we...

Second Week As A New Referee

That was my first thought when rolling subs was mentioned, and whilst not too bad during the game I can definitely see it harming the game in some ways. It gives kids a chance to get as much game time as possible, but also increases the stoppage in an already limited game for them

    Average Games Per Season

Agree, plus Youth football is a lot more appealing to do multiple games in a row than OA. That sounds bang on indeed.

    Average Games Per Season

Hi all, I'm looking at getting an understanding of the rough average of games per season that referees here tend to do (Let's stick with officiating in the middle for now). The reason I ask is I heard around the 40 mark was the average, but at the end of September I'd have done 12 which would...

Second Week As A New Referee

I assume it was left until the night before when the pitch's grass was cut. Must've been long, as the cut grass came up at least a foot off the ground. There was one instance when there was 12 players from one team on the pitch during a throw in as the sub was still coming off, so held off play...

Second Week As A New Referee

Hi all! Bit of a late "I'm a new referee" post, but I've finally got around to posting it. Last Saturday I officiated my first two games (back to back) for a local U13s league. To be truthful, I was pooping bricks a few days before the matches and it only got worse when I arrived to the pitch...

    Lengths of halves

I agree with this 100%. I had a coach ask me how long the halves were. I outlined that for that age group it was 30mins per half, and he was pretty adament that it should've been 35. But according to the league handbook, it was definitely 30 mins. The league's coaches haven't yet received their...
