But even with the law as it currently stands, the keeper can do a trick by pretending to clear the ball and miss it. As a referee you still need to decide wether it is a trick or not.
I got what you mean:
Any player any SPA/DOGSO get sanctioned, this is the general rule.
Among the general rule, for goal keepers handling the ball where it is not allowed, the case is carved out as a special case, not sanctioned.
Again, among this special case, goal keepers handling the ball as...
Thanks for the reply.
I agree the second touch SPA/DOGSO sanction should not be limited to the goal keeper, but the wording in laws of the game is not clear enough. This seems to be an minor textual error.
I know the difference between second touch and keeper illegal handball. However, why...
I am writing this because of the recent match between Ipswich vs Wolves, the Ipswich keeper handled the ball passed by his teammate to avoid an own goal. That should be a obvious goal scoring opportunity, but there is no sanction for the keeper, only an indirect free kick was given.
This is in...
It was an adult game and the attacking team was in a very good position, I didn't think it is a good time to stop the game. However, the defending player stopped immediately. Practically I certified their behaviour retrospectively and changed my decision. At that time I thought the player did...
hi there, I faced an situation described in the title:
1. Attacking team tried to put the ball in the box, hit a defender's face hard in the face.
2. The defender was down, but I don't know how bad it was and the attacking team was still in possession of the ball, so I allowed the game to...
Sorry for not being clear. UEFA says YC not doesn't mention it is 1 YC to which side or 2 YC. They might think it should be a clear decision.
I checked the match video, the referee issued a YC to white player and give blue a free kick. Another YC to one blue player (not the one being fouled) for...
Recap: after reviewing the valuable discussions I changed my idea: it should be a white foul.
Although the white player might have a true intention to play the ball initially when he moved to that position, the ball bounced higher than he expected, thus he lost the chance to play the ball. In...
Hi there, attached is a clip from the UEFA RAP 2024-1 E1 sample. Blue and while are contending for a ball in the air. The recommended decision is a yellow card for being reckless. However, I am confused which side it is awarded.
It looks to me there could be 2 interperations, both leading to a...
I've made a new GIF. The recommended decision is a red card + free kick. My understanding is that the pull and push happened outside of the box have already qualified for a DOGSO, so no advantage was played, thus no penalty.
Thanks I looked at that thread, it seems quite different. I uploaded a gif version here.
The foul on messi happened clearly outside of penalty area, but the foul on UEFA RAP sample consists of 3 parts and the last part happened in the penalty area.
The defender touched the ball first, but it was a faint touch, still the ball was in the forward's possession, then defender tripped down the forward, penalty.
If the defender got to clear the ball, the no penalty.
My two cents.
It's an example from here: https://www.dutchreferee.com/refereeing-assistance-programme/. It seems to be separate fouls. I know from the laws of game that if it is a continuous holding ending in the penalty area, then without any doubt a penalty kick should be given. However, in the case of...
White 47 initially fouled outside, and kept committing fouls inside the penalty area. Red card is without any doubt for DOGSO, but why only a free kick is awarded? Can we consider that advantage is played and then award a penalty for the last foul in the penalty area?
Thanks for any comments...
No they were not appealing, but the attacker was flying. I didn't call it at the time, but in retrospect I feel it a bit dangerous and I am wondering whether it should be a free kick.
I've seen many cases where a defender makes a slide tackle and touches the attacker's leg, because the foot can...
hi there, suppose this tackle:
- strong/harsh
- on the ground
- strait leg
- studs up towards the ball also towards the opponent
but
- catch the ball spot on
- does not touch the opponent
Is it still a foul because there is a strong likelihood that it will hit the other opponent?
Thanks!
hi @OldNavyRef , can I ask does "4 was playing him on" mean number 4 of the defending team is sitting deep which makes the attacking player onside? If it is the case then why flag is needed?
Remembering the back 4s number will definitely help. Thanks!
Thanks for all the advices. There are several practices that I have already employed:
1. side on to the pitch
2. focus on the offside line and use the sound to tell when the ball is played by the last attacking player.
3. concentrate and mark the second last defender --- I can do it most of the...
hi there, I am a pretty new referee. I've been AR for several matches. However, I find it quite difficult to focus both on the offside line and the ball in play. Sometimes the strikers and defenders are basically on the same line so I have to keep focused, but then I can't focus on the ball and...
