    Advantage + Offside

Agreed, I don't use that technique all the time, but it can be useful if you think an advantage may develop. Very often it's a gut feeling

And talking about losing sight of what's important....

Simple answer "We didn't play as a club, but a bunch of mates. We borrowed the kit so used the name that was on the badge" It was non-affiliated, so basically a kick-around, jeez.....jst let 'em play. Begs a question - my club has a ladies team that train on the same fields as another club...

    Vanishing Spray

I don't really see the point of it TBH - although it would be interesting to see the Prem League stats for yellow cards - was 'Failure to Respect" a particular disciplinary problem? If so, then use the spray. If not, why bother?

    Advantage + Offside

In my head "Foul - 3- 2- 1-ADVANTAGE!" if he still has chance to shoot/pass to teammate in shooting position. Or ; "Foul - 3-2-1- PEEEEP! No Advantage, free kick"

Shielding he ball out for a goal kick

Defender doing nothing wrong as long as ball is within playing distance (roughly two steps?) so attacker tackling and fouling, or using upper body to 'occupy the space that the defender is in' is a free kick.

    GADDAMMNITT!

So, season started for us three weeks ago. I've been struggling with my calves so took it easy doing a couple of lines for ladies league until I feel better. Improved a lot, and this weekend given a Fed Div 2 game as AR1, with a view to running a middle the following week. So this morning...

"She has to ask for 10"

    typical!

    Right or not (probably not!)

We are told to 'wait and see'. As a player I used to hate it when the ref shouted advantage, then blew up a couple of seconds later. As a ref, I think the players deserve to know your intentions, so I may have my arms 'obvioously' ready to signal, but will always take a breath first to see what...

Skrill North, South and Prem Playoffs

Ooohhhh......my old school. The good old green blazer brigade! Yerrr, Hednesford are pretty strong though aren't they? Haven't seen much Skrill footie in the last few years for obvious reasons lol. Although I did manage to get to a pre-season game last year, vs Halifax.

    Howard Webb

Definitely, should have shown a YC to Suarez! Not necessarily, there can be contact which isn't a foul, which the player then exaggerates to try and 'win' a foul. The argument over whether it is a 'dive' or, to use the correct term, 'simulation' kind of comes down to whether the player feels...

    Well done, Chelski

Hard though it is for me as a red, I can't begrudge City their success, and if it came down to it, I'd rather they win it than Liverpool or Chelski - 'cos I'm still a Manc. At least City are exciting to watch, good, pacey attack-minded football with the occasional lapse from Kompany to add a...

Skrill North, South and Prem Playoffs

Born and Bred in Altrincham - COME ON YOU ROBINS! Mind you, not sure they could afford the personnel required to survive in the 'top' league for long. My Dad goes to Moss Lane regularly, reckons they'd need at least four or five new players to stand a chance of mid-table mediocrity. Strengthen...

    Right or not (probably not!)

Take your time, I give myself a mental count to three before blowing or signalling advantage. Once I have signalled and called 'Advantage', I'd rather not pull it all back again! So, in my head 'one - two - thr....oh he's saved it!' Blow, "No advantage, penalty!" Then deal with whatever card...

    Danny Welbeck Penalty

Firstly, it WAS a penalty, Welbeck has clearly been impeded contact or not, the argument of 'not enough contact' does nothing for me, or the game I'm afraid, as you can foul someone without making contact at all. How much contact is needed anyway? The question for the card is - was it careless...

    Moyes Leaves United

As a united fan, and friends with many regulars at Old Trafford, there was still a fair amount of patience amongst the real fans. The plastic ones were baying for blood, but they are just the plastics. When the plane flew over OT with the banner there was plenty of booing for the stunt but most...

    goalkeeper parrying the ball

Yep - he is allowed to bounce the ball, which is what he has efectively done if you assume he is in 'possession' (or control) of the ball when he parries it. The fact it is a 'soft' shot would suggest he is. Hell yes, IDFK as soon as he picks it up.
