    Worst game to date

You say rugby tackle so I assume there was no attempt to play the ball? If there was an attempt to play the ball should it be a yellow instead? Just trying to think how I would deal with a similar situation and I'd be more likely to go yellow, unless there was no attempt to play the ball. I...

    First game completed, question though?

With no assistants I regularly stand off the FOP at goal kicks and move in when needed after judging the drop zone. Ive had a few scenarios recently where if I hadn't taken up that position I would have missed a foul / a touch for a throw

    First game completed, question though?

Players will always call for a push in the back. Sometimes it's just a hand on the back and they hope you'll give it. As above, get wide so you can see easily. You'll soon be able to spot the actual pushes.

    Want my first promotion

I'm on the accelerated promotion scheme from 7-5. I passed my level 7 exam and then went straight for it. I know myself I need to improve in areas and whilst getting another season under my belt may have been good, I also could have been making the same mistakes over and over. I've had one...

    Open Age Playground near by

I've just had contact from the home team for my next match. I've noticed on their website it says: Before the game Ill have a chat with the managers to remind, same again with the captains in the middle, I was also thinking about shouting loudly 'mind your language guys' as a warning if I ever...

    Open Age First red card

Thanks for all the replies and advice. Because it was said directly after my decision I took it as him calling me a cheat. Some of the home players came up afterwards and said they agreed but most of the time they'll say that. Looking back on it and taking the advice given I could have left it...

    Open Age First red card

Gave my first red card today and it was very odd. Away team 10-1 up. Away team attacker played through but was offside so I blow. He swears in frustration, I call him over to tell him to calm down. He asks why I gave offside, which I explained l. After this he says 'I don't like cheating'...

    How vocal are you?

I shout every decision throughout the whole match, corners, goal kicks, everything, so far I feel it works quite well. I also have quite a loud voice that travels and feel like it helps with some of the closer decisions.

IDFK taken whilst substitute is happening

I was waving them on from where I was, it was return subsitions so i monitored it from there. All other subs were fine as they were waiting for the whistle, and for me to put the thumbs up to the bench, therefore I put it down to the confusion of me whistling for the free kick. They had 11...

IDFK taken whilst substitute is happening

They had asked for permission for all other subs. Not this one, or they assumed I gave it when I blew for the free kick to be taken I didn't even think about that at the time. To be honest I probably would have decided against a yellow even if I had thought about it

IDFK taken whilst substitute is happening

Had a situation in my match today where I gave offside. After I had given offside I was having a chat with a player regarding a few tackles and was making sure ball was correctly positioned (no ARs) During this time I didn't realise the team who had the IDFK were making a sub. I blew the...

    Sin bin query

The law says : But I feel it does complicate things as most players don't understand it

    Sin bin query

Thank you, the helps clears things up. Would you regard additional dissent as a cautionable offence if the player has been temporarily dismissed?

    Sin bin query

Normally I would let it go, maybe have a chat with them depending on how it was said. However this particular team and player had been in my ear for a while and at that point I decided enough was enough. Off he went for 10 minutes, after that the team were better so I stand by the decision.

    Sin bin query

Gave my first sin today. Easy enough player said f*** off ref after I gave his team a throw not a free kick. I called the player over and he looked and continued walking, blew my whistle and called him over again, same response. At this point I said to his team mate who was next to me he needs...

    First OA assistant referee

Thanks, I have another assistant referee match this afternoon so I'm going to try and be more confident and maintain my signals for longer. I'll look to add more supportive flags if possible too. One other thing from the match yesterday was that the referee missed a shirt pull in the penalty...

    First OA assistant referee

Had my first OA assistant referee yesterday. Felt it largely went well, the referee said I needed to be more confident in my decisions and maintain myI flags longer which I agreed with. There were a few points of note in the match. 1) I gave an offside because an attacker was a few yards past...

    No assistants

Thanks, thinking about it refereeing without any assistants will give me better understanding and confidence so I can call the shots better when I do have CARs / NARs

    No assistants

Thanks all. I know they play without CARs week in week out so it will only be different for myself and hopefully they know referees cannot be everywhere at once

    No assistants

After a few weeks break I have 3 matches this weekend. One of them will be for a league that has a rule of no CARs and NARs are only assigned to the top league, as such I'll be the only referee. This is my first match for this league and I was wondering if anyone has any tips for calling...
